A Letter From the Director
Wow - I cannot believe August has already come and gone. In the past month I have found myself becoming quite a bit more acclimated to the Executive Director position. I am learning new things as well as meeting new people and members every day, I am excited to continue to do so.

With that being said I am thrilled to hear all of the wonderful ideas and feedback those of you that I have met with so far have shared with me; please keep all of the ideas and feedback coming my way. As "season" moves in on our town we have a lot planned for the next couple of months.

In September the chamber will continue to present the "Business After Hours" evening networking social. Since this is my first Business After Hours event I would like to challenge all of you that can make it to stop by for a great networking experience. There will be food, drinks, prizes as well as a good time for all.

Also within the next month our Concealed Weapons Class will recommence. This two-day class provides the community a great opportunity to obtain their concealed weapons permit. There will be many dates for the class throughout the next few months so if you cannot make it in September, no worries, there are many other classes scheduled. You can find a schedule of all concealed weapons classes on the chambers website calendar.

We at the chamber are also getting very excited about our annual Business of the Year Awards coming up on Wednesday, October 21. I would encourage all of the award nominees to RSVP as soon as possible, being that seating for this event fills up quickly!

Last but surely not least, the chamber would not be able to make any of this happen without its members. With that being said I would like to congratulate and most of all thank our newest members joining in August. Thank you to ARS Power Sports, D & G Catering, Los Cocos Mexican Restaurant, Morgan's Furniture, Surgery Center of Okeechobee, Advanced Water Technologies, Inc., Mohawk Construction, Inc. and Crossroads Restaurant.

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available in Florida
Following Secretary of Agriculture Disaster Declaration
ATLANTA - The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that federal economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of all sizes located in Florida as a result of the drought beginning on June 23, 2015.

The disaster declaration includes the following counties: Broward, Glades, Hendry, Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach in Florida.

"When the Secretary of Agriculture issues a disaster declaration to help farmers recover from damages and losses to crops, the Small Business Administration issues a declaration to eligible entities affected by the same disaster," said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA's Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.

Under this declaration, the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan program is available to eligible farm-related and nonfarm-related entities that suffered financial losses as a direct result of this disaster.  With the exception of aquaculture enterprises, SBA cannot provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers or ranchers.  However, nurseries are eligible to apply for economic injury disaster loans for losses caused by drought conditions......
