BrighterBirthdays is a new local non-profit organization created to give underprivileged children from Rome and Floyd County birthday bags. The organization partners with Brighter Day (part ofAction Ministries Rome) andlocal schools to identify children whose parents may not be financially able to celebrate their special day. Last year they were able to solicit donations from area businesses to put together 246 birthday bags filled with party supplies, treats, crafts, toys and basic living essentials and distributed them to 8 different Floyd County schools. This year they have set a goal of 1000 bags and expanded the program to the Rome City schools. Recently, members of our youth spent an afternoon at the home of Jill Fisher making birthday bags for BrighterBirthdays to distribute this year to children in need. For more information or to donate to this organization please visit Let's help make these kids birthdays a Brighter one!

We will have a Family Potluck and Sing-a-Long on Sunday, August 13 in Fellowship Hall at 5pm. We will gather for great food and fellowship followed by singing some of our favorite old hymns. We hope this will be a fun and inter-generational event. All are welcome and please invite your friends.

Join us Sunday, September 3 at 9:15 am to hear about our Sunday Morning Communities. These communities will enable us to connect with people through fellowship, to connect with God's Word through the teaching of His Word, and to connect with our mission and service opportunities here at FPC.

Berean SMC - Gospel of Luke
Gospel Life SMC - Union with Christ
Reformations SMC - Mark: A 12 week Study

Missions Spotlight:   Nate and Shana Mast and Blue Sky

Nate and Shanna Mast and Kirsten McClain have now been on staff with BlueSky Global Ministries for 1 year! Nate and Shanna continue to serve in Kenya doing youth ministry for International Christian Fellowship (a church) as well as working in conjunction with BlueSky to reach multinational youth for Christ. Many of their days look like student ministry here in the USA with pizza and movie nights, small groups, and summer camp. However, brownies must be made from scratch (no boxed mixes!) and camp may just have monkeys hopping through the middle of a youth game! Life in Kenya has a few differences, and Nate and Shanna will soon become parents which mean adjusting in a whole new way.
Kirsten McClain serves with BlueSky as part of the USA staff that recruits and mobilizes those who go. Kirsten and the McClain family had a chance to visit Nate and Shanna in Kenya at the end of May. They enjoyed seeing what camp is really like, meeting all of the BlueSky staff, experiencing the climbing wall and gym, and checking out facilities. BlueSky has recently hired a new camp director and his wife, and this will bring exciting changes for the future.

Thinking Biblically about Our Teenagers and Technology
Part of our philosophy of ministry for the student ministries is to partner with parents through equipping. We recognize two things: first, you are the primary disciple-er of your student. second, your student is growing up in a different world than we did and it is ever-changing. So, we want to have parent seminars at least twice a year to help equip you in the raising of your student.
On Wednesday, August 30 at 5:45-7:15pm in the back room of the Crossing, we will have guest speaker, John Perritt (RYM) speak on this topic. The cost of this is event is FREE!    Everyone is welcome.
Refreshments will be provided for adults and pizza will be provided for children (toddlers and older, please pack your own meal for nursery.) Nursery (8 wks-5yrs) will be available by request only. Youth staff will provide childcare for children 6yrs & older. Please make your nursery/childcare requests and reservations to the church office no later than August 24.
