A Message From Greg
It is hard to believe that the start of the school year is just around the corner, but ready or not here it comes.  This year the beginning of the school year has taken on special significance for our church because beginning in August we will be partnering with Lafayette Urban Ministry's after school program.  That means that we will have between 50 and 70 children in our building every school day from approximately 3:15 pm to 5:30 pm.  Lafayette Urban Ministry (LUM) will provide paid staff for the program and on any given day there are several volunteers that also help.  While our church is not required to provide volunteers as part of the partnership, I would encourage you to consider volunteering to help from time to time.  The after school program will be located primarily on the 2nd floor (classroom level) of our building.
The Property Committee, the 20/20 Vision Committee, the Stewardship Committee, the CWF  as well as the General Board of the Church have been actively involved since May in considering, planning, and preparing for this wonderful addition to our ministry.  We are looking forward to a good beginning. The after school program is primarily designed for Lafayette School Corporation (LSC) children and as many of you know LSC begins school on August 9th so we should have a number of children in the building starting the afternoon of the 9th.  While this is a new beginning for us, it is not a new beginning for LUM.  LUM has been successfully conducting its after school program for several years now.  Our space and support will enable them to not only serve more children, but to serve them in an even better way.
This connection with LUM's after school program is completely consistent with our church's goal to find creative ways to use our building in mission and ministry to the community.  God didn't just open a window for us in this regard, God opened an enormous door.  It will be an exciting fall at First Christian Church and I am thankful to God for this exceptional opportunity to serve the children of our community.
Another important improvement has been made to our ministry this summer.  Our computer system has been completely restructured so that we may better manage the church's administrative needs.  We have been operating with out of date equipment for a while and we were well past the time when updates were needed.  The new equipment and software will enable us to better meet the management needs of the multi-faceted ministries of the church.
On a different subject; Nancy and I will be leaving to go on vacation July 29th and we will be back August 8th.  In my absence Rev Susan Lisack will preach on July 31st and Elder Richard Ellsworth will be preaching August 7th.  I am grateful for their willingness to serve.  God Bless You! See You in Church!   Peace, Greg

Scripture of the Month
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
                                                    GOD'S WAYS by John Prewett
I have repeatedly said that I will do anything for our church but I WILL NOT be Board Chair. Well, if you haven't heard, I AM BOARD CHAIR with a gracious offer from Mike Rubesch to co-chair. (Thank you Mike!)
Like so many of the Old Testament stories of reluctant followers of God's requests, I too am a reluctant and defiant follower.  An old hymn states:
Here I am Lord, is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your People in my heart.
We need to answer the call when God does the dialing and I have to be honest about something.  I am afraid of getting too close to God, because I know if I get very close to Him, He will ask much of me and that would just get in the way of MY life as I want it to be.  Just give me my Grace, Forgiveness, Love and Eternal Life with no strings attached! Make it a one way street!  But all sarcasm aside, my life has been blessed by God's hand and I desire to give something back, even if it is serving as First Christian Church Board Chair.  Please keep me in your prayers as I have been called, but I am waiting to be equipped.   Blessings to all, Brother John
Memorials were received for Lois Roberts from Mary Thomas and Kathy Arnold.

The graduates and their families would like to thank Debbie Prewett and her crew for a fabulous graduation breakfast on Graduation Sunday.  You all went over and above!
I would also like to thank Steve Klink for a GREAT job on Graduation Sunday!

Dear Church Friends,
Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and cards during my recent surgery.  I am blessed having you as friends.

Mosey Down Broadway ll was a big hit at the CWF general meeting.   Many thanks to Harriet Beeler and Carolyn Henry for planning this event. Thank you to the ladies of Ruth circle for preparing the delicious appetizers and desserts.
Thank you to Susan Lisack for installing our new CWF officers:  President: Jane Rubesch, Vice President: Carolyn Henry, Secretary: Kathy Kremer, Treasurer: Sandie Hauser, Ruth Circle President: Cay Long, and Rachel Circle President: Dee Chitty.   The installation was followed by a wonderful musical program of Broadway show tunes. Thank you, Jeff Goodspeed and Barry Kemble for sharing your talents with us.
A free will offering raised $380 for CWF projects.

The church decorating committee: Shirley Ellsworth, Nancy Eberhard, and Carolyn Henry did a fantastic job of planning the women's restroom on the main floor. Carolyn worked over 40 hours, painting, papering and sewing. If you haven't had a chance, stop by to check it out. It is beautiful! Thank you very much, ladies!
We've heard that the men are wondering when it will be their turn!   Jane Rubesch

We are looking for a good used mid-sized refrigerator.  This is for the LUM children.  We are hosting the "After School Program" at FCC.  Please contact Jane Rubesch @ 524-583-4630 or Donna Adams @ 765-490-5837.  Thank you!
