A word from Hunter

Don't get burned!
I know it's coming to the end of the season for many of you, so hang in there! It's critical that you keep pushing through this month, and make September a great month as well. August is a great month to really focus on shorter, harder intervals, where you improve your VO2 max and Anaerobic Capacity. Be sure to keep your workouts a little shorter, especially in the heat, but keep the intensity higher.

Another great motivating factor in your August and September training is to start thinking about your goals for 2017. What events are you planning for next season? What would you like to achieve for this fall/winter training?

Make sure you have your coach review your power files and go over your post season review with you in September. Coaching in September and October is really critical as these months set you up for a great winter of training and also a great 2017. It's not too early to think about 2017! Keep it going this month and stay focused!

You can do it!

PCG Gives Back to Our Community Community
Peaks Coaching Group supports our Veterans

PCG is partnering with Ride 2 Recovery, a groundbreaking Veterans program started in 2008, founded on cycling based programs.  Ride 2 Recovery is using cycling as a way to rehabilitate wounded veterans by getting them back on the bike and providing a way to live a better life.  They reached out to us looking for some guidance on training plans. PCG put together a package of training plans geared towards their specific needs and programs.

Healing Heroes at Ride 2 Recovery is using the Peaks Coaching Group Training Plans to help prepare for the Leadville trail 100 as part of their therapy to help mentally and physically recover from injuries sustained while serving our country.  Here are a few comments from these remarkable veterans:

"The program is easy to follow and the app is very straight forward when on the go. The best support for me comes from the podcast in which they answer questions and inform listeners of upcoming changes. I'm super satisfied."

"I struggle with focus and motivation when I am on my own at home training as opposed to on the Ride 2 Recovery challenges where I have my peers, staff and the atmosphere motivating me and others to ride. Peaks Coaching gives me a program that is easy to follow and understand plus keeps me motivated with all the encouragement and improvement...Thanks!"

What our Athletes say about us Testimonial

A few months ago, we received this comment on our blog post about ErgVideo:

I have to say I love these videos, I had a major accident in a race in Australia May 2014. I broke both legs and smashed my tibia plateau, pelvis was broken in seven places and broke three vertebrae. I was not sure I would ever walk again properly let alone ride my bike. I was lucky enough to meet an orthopaedic surgeon who was a cyclist and an extremely gifted trauma surgeon. Once he took over my case he assured me he could get me back on the bike. After many operations I ser the bike on the computrainer and would sit on it and pedal backwards because I did not have enough rotation in the left knee to get over the top of the pedal stroke. This went on for weeks the more I pedalled backwards then forwards I would get just a little further. Then one day the knee rolled over the top and I was pedalling forwards again.
I already owned a decent library of Ergvideos and once I got the all clear to start pushing a bit I bit the bullet and grabbed the Hunter Allen set. I still could not walk properly but I could pedal the bike, I needed a crate to stand on so I could get on and off the bike but I was so excited everyday to get on it.
After not riding at all for thirteen months I did my first 20 minute test of 207 watts, followed the training plan from the Ergvideo website with Hunter Allan videos religiously and after 15 weeks my 20 minute test was 301 watts. Moral of the story these videos and training plans work if your prepared to suffer indoors for a while.
I'm back racing my bike even though walking is still a struggle compared to riding. I cannot thank Ergvideo and Peaks Coaching Group enough for the compilation of videos and training plans, it saved my sanity and got me back racing when I never thought it would be possible again. I still use them 3 times a week to keep me on track with my training.

In 1954, Ralph and Luella Gamber developed the EN-R-G Bar ("EN" for energy, "R" for Ralph, and "G" for Gamber). They wanted to provide an alternative to the candy bars available at the time. Their plan was simple: natural ingredients, great taste and (since Ralph was a beekeeper) HONEY. They also introduced two-ounce packets of honey with the words "quick energy" printed on them. Ralph's friend Roy Phillips, head wrestling coach at F&M College, used these packets to provide quick energy for his athletes. Although Ralph and Luella knew they were on to something, the market was not quite ready for energy foods.  In 2002 we re-established EN-R-G Foods, Inc. in Steamboat Springs, CO with the same goal in mind: provide great tasting, honey-based energy foods made with natural ingredients.  We think Ralph and Luella would be proud of our products and we know you'll like them too.

NATURE'S ENERGY SOURCE
> Honey is rich in carbohydrates, making it ideal fuel for working muscles.

> Before exercise: When eaten before activity, it is released into the system at a steady rate throughout the activity.

> During exercise: Helps muscles stay nourished longer, delays fatigue.

> After exercise: Research shows ingesting a combination of carbohydrates and protein immediately following exercise refuels and decreases muscle soreness.
