AER Bulletin 2018-22: Optional Process for Submitting Fluid Disposal Applications
On August 27, 2018, the AER released Bulletin 2018-22, which outlines an optional process for the submission of disposal applications.

This new process allows for the submission of Class I, II or III disposal schemes prior to the drilling of a well. Prior to the issuance of this Bulletin, operators were required to drill the well to the zone of interest prior to the submission of the D065 application. This requirement has now been eliminated.

AER Bulletin 2018-14: Revised Program to Reduce Benzene Emissions from Glycol Dehydrators
On June 19, 2018, the AER released an updated version of Directive 039 which revised Benzene emission limits.

BCOGC Directive 2018-01: Immediate Suspension of Water Diversions
Effective August 20,2018, the OGC is requiring that all previously approved water diversion licences be suspended in the Peace River and Lizard River Watersheds.

AER Area Based Closure Program Information Sessions
The AER has been hosting information sessions for industry to educate companies on its area-based closure program for wells, facilities, pipelines and sites across Alberta.

The last one, which will be held on September 13, 2018, is full. However, keep your eyes open on this page to see if any other sessions become available.
BCOGC Industry Bulletin 2018-16: Guidance for Special Sour Well De-classification
On July 11, 2018, the OGC released Bulletin 2018-16, which outlines the method in which the OGC will allow for the de-classification of "special sour status wells".

SME Extends its Shadow Billing Period until the Fall
On July 16, 2018, the SME extended its shadow billing period for the non-compliance penalty assessment program until early fall 2018. In the meantime, the SME is encouraging industry to fulfill any outstanding IRIS obligations to avoid penalties once the shadow billing period ends.
