From the President's Desk:

NAMI Four Seasons is proud to announce that a Crisis
Intervention Team Training, (CIT) took place this month at the Hendersonville Fire Department, 632 Sugarloaf Road. This was the first local training for Hendersonville firefighters and the first in the
23 counties that Smoky Mountain Center covers. Many thanks to Kristen Martin from THRIVE (also a NAMI member) and Hendersonville Fire Chief, Joseph Vindigni for their hard work organizing and adapting this training. Twenty firefighters graduated
from the program.

NAMI Four Seasons needs a Board Treasurer and Vice President. Both of these vacancies need to be filled immediately. Please email president@namifourseasons.org if you are interested.

The Council on Aging has an Extra Help Program for those on Medicare who may be struggling to pay for their prescription drugs. The application is easy to complete over the phone, on the internet
or by hand. Call the Pardee Signature Care Center for an appointment or more information, (828) 692-4600.

NAMI Four Seasons at the  
Apple Festival!
   
 

NAMI Four Seasons will be taking part in this year's  
Apple Festival, September 2-5. We have been
selected to attend for all 4 days, ending with the
Labor Day parade on Monday, September 5th.  

If you would like to be part of the fun and help NAMI Four Seasons, we still need volunteers for the booth!

We want to encourage our members to stop by and  we'll be offering
a raffle for a gift basket from The Fresh Market and free tokens will
be available from our booth.

Potluck Dinner 

Monday, September 19th 6 p.m.

It's potluck supper on Monday, September 19 at 6 p.m. NAMI members and friends and those living with mental illness and their families are invited to come.
The Plantation Walk Clubhouse was originally a farmhouse and is a beautiful venue for our late summer potluck. NAMI Four Seasons will provide a tray of sandwich fixings. Bring a dish to share! We need sides, salads and desserts. Enjoy great food and even better conversation!

Directions to Plantation Walk Clubhouse:
From the center of Hendersonville, take 64 west (Brevard Rd.) toward Brevard. Go about one mile to intersection of Blythe and 64, at the corner of Grace Lutheran Church, and turn right. Go about 0.6 of a mile and turn left into Plantation Walk community onto Belvidere Ct. Go straight through first intersection to an immediate left, the turn for the Clubhouse. Drive up the hill to the farmhouse, which is the Clubhouse.

EDUCATION

HENDERSON COUNTY

Classes begin September 12 and end October 20, 2016

The 12-session Family-to-Family Course provides participants with vital Information, insight and understanding of their mentally ill loved one(s) that many describe as life changing.
The classes are extremely informative and can help family members  understand and empathize with their loved one. The course will provide information on medications, new treatment modalities, handling crises, communication techniques, self- care and more.
Class size is limited so don't delay!

INFORMATIONAL FORUM
 
Our Informational Forum for August has been cancelled. We will resume October 18.

Be part of a positive change. Celebrate National Recovery Month and help to spread the message that people do achieve sustained recovery from alcohol, drugs, mental health concerns and other life challenges.
There will be a Recovery Walk around the lake, guest speakers, and awards for Recovery Champion and Ally of the Year, resources and services from local organizations and much more!

"NAMI Smarts for Advocacy" is a hands-on advocacy-training program that helps people living with mental illness, friends and family transform their passion and lived experience into skillful grassroots advocacy. 
 
NAMI Western Carolina will be offering NAMI Smarts for Advocacy training Saturday, Oct. 29, from 8:30 a.m. until noon. Training will be at NAMI Western Carolina offices, upper level of 356 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville. 
 
There are 2 modules, in Module 1, Telling Your Story, participants will learn just that: how to tell their stories in a compelling way that gets noticed. Module 2 will be Emails and Phone Calls that Policy Makers Remember.
 
Participants routinely share that they've never been able to condense their story or made a clear "ask," but with NAMI Smarts, they are now able to. And lobbyists who represent NAMI state organizations and mental health coalitions also love this program.
