Greetings!

September will soon be upon us and will bring a return to routine for most of us. Maybe the pews or chairs will fill back up. Maybe we can catch up on the budget. But I hope "routine" does not necessarily mean "business as usual." I hope the Holy Spirit brings a new passion to our hearts. I hope we feel the urgency to take our faith out the doors of the church with us and to share our stories of how Jesus has changed us, walked with us, used us to bless others, and gotten us through storms. I hope we can be excited about inviting unchurched to accompany us to our "church home." I hope our hearts grow more generous and our communities see us in more places. I hope we reflect Jesus!

I look forward to our District Conference on September 24th at Fountain City UMC at 3:00pm. Pastors and local church leaders should attend. But everyone is welcome. We will have a business session and a time of worship. The business includes setting a budget for 2018, electing leaders, and electing at-large members for the 2018 Annual Conference. I enjoy meeting the people of our District and look forward to sharing a few moments with you at the reception that will follow our District Conference.

And finally, in this city, I pray for peace. Will you join me in praying for the church in the world and for peace in the world. We are anxious about the future of both the church and the world. Jesus invites us to "be not anxious about tomorrow." May our prayers this day reflect a deep trust in the Living Lord.

This year's Worship Conference will feature Barbara Day Miller, former Dean of Worship at the Candler School of Theology and L. Edward Phillips, Associate Professor of Worship and Liturgical Theology and the Coordinator of the Initiative in Religious Practices and Practical Theology at the Candler School of Theology.

Our speakers will lead us in a conversation about how all Christian worship is sacramental in nature, how "doing" the sacraments matters, and how the flow of worship forms us. We will worship three times, hear each of leaders in plenary, and come together for more personal learning in our Workshops. The conference will be hosted at The Connexion in Sevierville. This is a great opportunity to be renewed in worship while enjoying the best of the Great Smoky Mountains.

This conference is not for clergy only; all laity are welcomed and encouraged to attend as well. Sacramental identity is at the core of our Christian faith.

Notes:
0.7 CEUs offered by Wesley Leadership Institute for this conference.
Optional Saturday Breakfast with Barbara is an additional $10.

Early Bird Registration: $30
Deadline: Thursday, August 31, 2017
Registration after deadline: $40
Saturday Breakfast with Barbara: $10
