AASHTO has a series of 120 plus online training modules available through their Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TC3). Prior to the agreement, local government agencies would have to purchase access to those modules, but now they are available at no cost!

Traffic Incident Management Responder Training
Kentucky's Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training program addresses the challenges of moving people and goods efficiently and safely on the nation's highways. The Program focuses on response efforts that protect motorists and responders while minimizing the impact on traffic flow. TIM efforts include detecting, verifying and responding to incidents; clearing the incident scene; and restoring traffic flow. Based on the severity or type of incident, first responders may represent law enforcement, fire, transportation, emergency medical services, public safety, towing and recovery, public works and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) disciplines.

Using a multiple discipline perspective, first responders will learn how to operate more efficiently and collectively. The training covers many topics including recommended TIM procedures and techniques.

Rural communities provide food, energy, resources and much more to keep America running.   In 2016, attendees at the National Working Summit on Transportation in Rural America helped define the future for "Moving Rural America" by articulating the key transportation safety issues facing rural areas, culminating in a call to action of "On the Road to Zero, We Cannot Ignore Rural."

This year, the summit will continue to move the rural conversation forward and will focus more intently on safety solutions and "Bridging the Gap."

Kentucky LTAP/T2 Places 3rd in National Poster Contest
Each year at the National LTAP-TTAP Conference, centers are asked to submit a poster which describes the chosen theme for the year.  The theme for 2018 was "That Little Something Extra".

Kentucky LTAP/T2 chose to highlight our Americans with Disabilities Act program.  We chose this training program because those of us who design or maintain roads understand cars, trucks and drivers and the grades and slopes necessary for safe roadways, but many times we don't think about those same statistics for sidewalks.  With more than 57 million Americans over the age of 15 having a disability, this is an important topic for local governments to address.

Of the 12 posters that were presented at the conference, Kentucky was awarded 3rd place for their poster.  It was an honor to share with the centers the work Kentucky LTAP/T2 is doing, and a privilege to place 3rd in the contest.
