"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy :16)

Dear St. Paul's,

I hope this letter finds you refreshed and energized after enjoying a Summer break.  Of course Jen and I just returned from an amazing month or so away in which we saw our oldest son Nate marry his beloved Emily Zydiak in Lexington, VA.  It was transcendant-a moment that you know will come eventually, but you have difficulty grasping its magnitude and meaning.  Then just two weeks ago I left Rosie off at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC for her freshman year, the last of the Robbins chicks to leave the nest.

And as Jen and I grapple with this newest chapter of our lives, I'm convinced of one thing more than ever-my need for a Savior and Lord to save and lead me.

I'm also growing in the conviction of the power of the truth of God's Word to transform our lives-to keep us growing strong spiritually in the face of continuing challenges all around us.  I'm also grateful for the priceless gift of the loving Christian community that we have at St. Paul's, and excited for all that the Lord has for us in the days ahead.

In just a few weeks Bill Proctor will be restarting his Sunday morning study of Revelation at the Garden Club, and I will be leading a Wednesday night study of 1st Timothy at Azalea Lane.  Our goal is to see everyone "thoroughly equipped for every good work."  Please join us at our dinner and a movie night which will serve as a kickoff to the Wednesday night ministries at the Bethel Creek House, 4405 N. A1A on September 16th.  Join us!

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

SIMPLE SUPPERS

The first Simple Supper get-together for brunch, fellowship and organizing will be held in October.

The purpose of the informal meals is just to get to know each other better. It is OK if you can't be a host, someone else will be glad to do so. Transportation can be arranged. It is OK if you can't always be there. We are very flexible. As the snowbirds return, we will include them. Each group will decide when they want to get together once a month and the host for each month will decide what sort of meal they will enjoy. That makes it sound more like an adventure, which it often is.

Let us know if you want to join in, either by phone to Dean or Christine at 234-2398 or the church office 231-3552 or by writing "simple supper" on the friendship form at church.  We are excited to resume this fellowship ministry.  Watch for further details soon!

ST. PAUL'S SURVIVOR CAMP A BIG SUCCESS!!

Nineteen children (ages 9-14) enjoyed a fun filled week on the beach filled with God's Word, which helped each "Survivor" with various mental and physical challenges.  Challenges included everything from kayak races, a scavenger hunt, swimming, obstacle courses, puzzles, endurance tests to memorizing scripture.  One of
Marie eating hot pickled okra
the favorite activities was the "Food Challenge."  Children had to eat various food items including beets, octopus and even pickled eggs!

Another exciting event saw 3 teams of 6 children each building a raft with only bamboo, rope and duct tape.  Once the raft was completed the children placed one child on the raft and raced against each other in the ocean.

1st Place-Shelter Challenge-Yellow Team

During the middle of the week "Survivors" kayaked to an island in t he Indian River where they put their survival skills to the test.  Each "tribe" had to build a shelter, distill water, find food, make a tool & a weapon, gather materials to start a fire and make a "SOS" sign.  All "Survivors" were rewarded at the end of the day with hot dogs & s'mores.

Each camper earned points throughout the week for the chance to be the "Soul Survivor."

T his year's winner was Tessa DeLange.  She won a t-shirt & $50.00.

Survivor Camp took place at The Prestige Hotel at 1526 Ocean Drive.  Thanks to their generosity we had access to a pool, a shaded area and the beach.

We look forward to challenging all our "Survivors" again next year!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The children have been busy all summer reading about all the marvelous miracles Jesus performed.  We heard how Jesus cares about our spiritual and physical needs when He turned water into wine, fed 5,000 and helped the disciples catch lots of fish.  We saw Jesus' great healing power when He healed the 10 lepers, the paralyzed man and the blind.  As Jesus walked on water, cured the centurion's servant and calmed the storm, we learned the importance of faith.  Our favorite miracle was the raising of Lazarus.  Here we realized that Jesus even had power over death!

We will be concluding our unit on "The Miracles of Jesus" with a movie on Sunday, September 13th, with popcorn & candy of course.
THANK YOU'S
