60 Second Inspirations
We are excited to bring these powerful stories of transformation back in August! We will kick off the month by introducing you to Amanda Fleming, a former athlete who found her inner and out strength again at Bay Athletic Club.  She is a wife, mother of 3 and works full-time.  She has overcome big obstacles to make it to her goal of being healthier, inside and out, by the time she turned 40.  Her story is powerful.  Catch it this Monday night on the WBKB 6pm news and catch the replay on our Facebook page the next day. 

We have gifted dozens of BAC stadium blankets in July to members who have hit their 100th check in!  We've also given out sideline chairs to DeAnn Carter, Krista Morrow and Rhonda Keller for hitting their 200th check in!  It's been an exciting month in so many ways. Wherever you're at, you are on track to earning yourself a BAC Rewards gift if you keep your workouts consistent. You can do it too!

Here's the quick 411 on BAC Rewards: we want to reward YOU, our members, for making fitness a priority year round.  Members who get at least 100 check-ins during 2018 will receive a red BAC sweatshirt blanket: perfect for picnics, sporting events or snuggling on the couch.  Members who get at least 200 check-ins during 2018 will get the blanket and the sideline chair!  Oh...it comes with a carrying case too!  

No strings attached, just more BAC SWAG and incentive for you, our valued members.
Community Outreach

The kids at the Salvation Army Summer Program got to run through a circuit at Bay Urban Fitness! Trainers Lara and Courtney hosted 20 kids and talked with them about healthy food, the power of exercise, why we need water and getting a good nights sleep. Then they hopped up and went through two different circuits using med balls, the TRX, ladders, sand bells and more. They had a blast and working out truly felt like a game!
Fitness keeps you young and that youthful energy is bursting out of this picture! Twice a month a BAC instructor heads to Turning Brook to lead a chair based fitness class for residents.

CLICK PHOTO ABOVE TO SEE WILDCAT SWEAT FEATURED ON THE LOCAL NEWS! Wildcat Sweat is the secret weapon for high school athletes. Workouts are designed to improve agility, speed, endurance and strength and keep risk of injury down and athletic performance up. Alpena High School Athletes going into 9th - 12th grades are welcome to take advantage of these specialized trainings.

The workouts are every Tuesday and Friday at 10 AM, all summer. They are led by certified personal trainers and Wildcat supporters, Rick Houchin and Lindsey Bartz. Beachbody at BAC

We LOVE seeing you at the Club. We KNOW that the energy, variety of workouts and accountability we offer at BAC changes lives. Hands down.

Mediterranean Summer Salad
Put this refreshing salad together in a flash. Filled with the effervescence of three fresh herbs and the zesty bite of lemon juice, this salad makes for a perfect summer meal.
INGREDIENTS:
1 lbs. chicken breast, grilled
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup dill, plus more for garnish
1/4 cup Italian flat leaf fresh parsley leaves
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp. sugar
Pinch of salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved and divided
2 cups hothouse cucumber, roughly chopped and divided
4 cups spring greens or spinach, divided
1 cup crumbled feta
1/2 cup kalamata olives, pitted and halved
DIRECTIONS:
In a food processor, combine dill, parsley, basil, lemon juice and sugar, then pulse until combined.  You may need to stir in the herbs between pulses to get them chopped. With the motor running, slowly add 1/2 cup olive oil in a steady stream until smooth, then season with salt and pepper.
Slice grilled chicken and place 2 cups of greens down in a bowl, repeat with another bowl. Arrange the divided sections of tomato, cucumber, feta, olives, and chicken on top of the greens in each bowl. Drizzle with vinaigrette and serve immediately. Serves two.

An idea floated into my mind on a  raft... and it's changed our business. 

About six years ago, I was at a staff retreat at our family cottage on Grand Lake. We were laying on rafts, talking about one of our core values of Bay Athletic Club -- gratitude. That means gratitude for each other as teammates, for our community for its support, and to our members for their loyalty. I started brainstorming how we could really SHOW our gratitude in a big, fun way. There, was born our annual #LIVEGRATEFUL campaign. 
It's a "pour-the-love-on" to our existing members campaign. 

We celebrate every August as member appreciation month. Of course, we hope you feel valued every time you come to BAC! This is just the "cherry on top."  

This year? We are going BIG!
All members are gifted:

- a free 4-day camp of their choice (4 time slots to pick from) 
- a free guest pass to inspire a friend 
- a flyer outlining all the support available at BAC 

Today is the first day of the month and we'd already given out 100 bags by noon! What fun. I  was at the club teaching lunchtime Pilates and was so happy to see so many  members walking out with a smile and a sporty new bag! I snapped a picture of our membership director Courtney Holmes gifting a bag to local PE teacher and Varsity girls basketball coach Erin Andrews (who has been super committed to her fitness this summer, as a busy mom of three!) 

I love summer BAC. We had record high check ins during the month of JULY when most clubs and most communities take a vacation from fitness. NOT US!
Our "Group Ex Rocks" program kept members happy, engaged and winning free shirts all summer long!

August is going to be amazing. Live Grateful month brings lots of  "good feels."

  • Get 5K ready or improve your stride and pace with this specialized training led by BAC personal trainers and accomplished runners!
  • Meets three times, giving you the empowerment tools you need to raise your running confidence and ability.
  • You will work on stride, pace, breathing, endurance and distance.
  • Live sessions on Thursday nights at 6:30pm and detailed homework to get you ready for your running goal are included.
  • Begins on Thursday, August 16th and meets Thursday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 30th.
  • The timing of this program lines up perfectly with the annual Aliferis Memorial Races on Labor Day weekend!

GET A QUICK LOOK AT WHAT IS NEW IN OUR GROUP EXERCISE DEPARTMENT
GROUP EX ROCKS GAME CARDS have been flying in at the end of the month!  Now comes the fun part, delivering your "Fitness Doesn't Take the Summer Off" shirts!  When you turned your card in you should have also give your shirt size to the front desk.  We will be ordering a shirt just for you and getting it to you during the beginning of August!

YOGA ON THE BEACH FOR A CAUSE is happening on Saturday, August 4th.  Meet instructor Amy Schultz at Starlite Beach at 9am.  Open to all and a donation of at least $5 is appreciated.  All proceeds will go to supporting Relay for Life!

CYCLE 90 IS ROCKING with instructor Tracie Granata on Sunday, August 5th.  Expect a sing-a-long ride to some of your favorite music.  The time will fly and the calories will melt away.  Starts at 8:30am at Bay Urban Fitness.  Space is limited so sign up ASAP.  Call 989.356.5600 or email Lindsey@BayAthleticClub.com to sign up.  The cost is $10 for members and $20 for non members.

POUND CLASS DEBUTS at Sweat for a Cause!  We've had some demand for this cardio based, rhythmic class that features drumsticks and we are stoked to be offering it on Friday, August 17th in conjunction with raising money for the Thunder Bay Junior High PE program. Ami Lenning will lead you through a high energy workout that will have you smiling, rocking out and working hard!  A donation of at least $5 is appreciated.   All welcome!

ONE MORE SPECIAL POUND CLASS! Ami Lenning is leading this fun format on Friday, August 24th as well.  Meet at Bay Urban Fitness at 5:30pm for a workout that feels like a party!

EXCITING NEWS FOR BAY URBAN FITNESS!  We are having the floors refinished during the last week of August.  There will be no classes at Bay Urban Fitness from August 27th to September 3rd, but we will be back on schedule, with beautiful floors, the next week!
