Summer reading programs have drawn to a close. 41,846 books were read by our y oung readers! Teens and adults read and reviewed over 1000 books.  Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for reading (and prizes) with the Woodridge Library.

A highlight of summer programming was the July 23 Reader's Theater Extravaganza staged by our young performers after six weeks of creative planning and practice.

Implementation of the new catalog continues with changes to patron notifications coming soon. Staff members from the over 70 libraries who share the catalog are working on issues related to item records and descriptions. As these issues are resolved patrons should see improved search results. Our staff has been helping patrons one-on-one, demonstrating search strategies that lead to good results. Stop by a reference desk for searching advice or call with catalog or library account questions--we appreciate your patience and input.

The Town Centre parking lot resurfacing project is now finished and visitors to the library will once again find parking easy and convenient

Library renovations are scheduled to begin in September. Book collections, computers and other resources are now being moved in preparation for the redesign and construction work. We are also suspending our acceptance of book donations for the Friends of the Library book sale until renovations are completed. Please note that the library will remain open throughout the project. This includes the monthly art shows in the Lobby.

The Friends have used proceeds from the book sale to fund the digitization of the Woodridge Progress newspaper. Longtime residents or students doing local history research will enjoy using this database to investigate important years (1969-1978) in Woodridge history. Join the Friends and Department Head George Kalinka for an overview of the database on August 18 at 7 p.m

We have plenty of other offerings to keep you busy this August including a presentation from genealogy expert and author Grace DuMelle on August 5.  Local favorite, musician Steve Justman performs our final music program of the summer on August 16.  As we head into the fall hiring season residents who are job hunting shouldn't miss the August 26 introduction to the Lisle Job Club.

August's Recommended Resource
HeritageQuest

Find your ancestors in the records and books accessible through the HeritageQuest database. Search the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 - 1940 using a combination of the name, location, year, keyword, gender or nationality of the family member you are researching. The database includes searching tips for researchers who are just getting started and tips for families ready to move beyond the basics of genealogy research.

The best part about HeritageQuest? It is accessible from home by Woodridge Public Library cardholders. Use the first five digits of your library card when prompted by the database.

If you would like assistance getting started with HeritageQuest a library staff member will be available to assist you in the computer training lab on August 8 at 10 a.m. or on August 11 at 2 p.m. Please reserve your time in the lab for Genealogy Research by registering online or calling 630-487-2577.
