Renewal

"Nature often holds up a mirror so we can see more clearly the ongoing processes of growth, renewal, and transformation
in our lives."

-Mary Ann Brussat

Dear Members and Friends,

Happy spring!

The change of seasons provides a wonderful reminder that we are, as all in nature is, constantly evolving. I hope this finds you well prepared for the forthcoming season in both your personal and professional lives.

Here at the Chamber, we are pleased to hear the songbirds announcing their return, and eagerly anticipate the colors of spring that will soon follow. We are working hard to refresh our website, review our member benefits, and yes: update our membership directories. If you have not yet renewed your membership, now is the perfect time to do so! Volunteers of our Membership committee have been working diligently to call those of you have not yet submitted your renewal. If you've simply forgotten, please do it now! If there is a reason you have not renewed, please share that information with us. The decision is yours, and will be respected, but we sincerely value your input and feedback. We will be removing from our database any members who do not renew by April 30, 2013.

Speaking of input: the City is currently revising its Sign Code, and as the collective voice for business, the Chamber is uniquely qualified to represent you in this process. Please email Lisa at assistant@allaboutaurora.com to RSVP for a member forum on Thursday, April 18 from 9-11am in the Howard Hanna Community Room. We will gather specific, constructive suggestions that, when combined, will aide the City in updating the Sign Code. Your voice matters! If you cannot attend this forum, please contact the office and we will gather your input. Please feel free to pass along this information to any non-member businesses who might be interested.

April is another busy month for Chamber members!

Here are highlights: contact us with news about your business or organization so we can share it!

Charm Salon & Boutique will celebrate a Grand Opening ribbon cutting Friday, April 19th from 4-6pm. See more information below, and prepare to be charmed by this new business!

Wednesday, April 24th is Administrative Professionals Day. I suggest they call it Lifesaver Day! I know all of you who call or stop by the office appreciate Lisa Dreimiller's kind and helpful nature. What you might not know is how much the Board of Directors and I rely on Lisa to keep things running smoothly at the Chamber. I admire how Lisa genuinely cares about both doing her job well and serving others. Please consider taking a moment to thank Lisa for all she does every day for the Aurora Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.

Also, join us at Harry & David from 8-10am the morning of Administrative Professionals Day! You can enjoy flavored coffee and delicious breakfast treats while shopping for the lifesaver(s) at your business!

The United Way of Portage County invites you to celebrate the finale of their 2013 Campaign at a Tailgating Celebration Friday, April 26 from 5:30-8p at the Rusty Nail in Kent. Scroll down for more information. Congratulations to the United Way for helping us LIVE UNITED!

Hey: what's the good news?!?

AURORA will be featured in a segment to air on Fox8's

New Day Cleveland Monday, April 29th from 10-11am.

SET THAT DVR!

Before long, May will be here. Here's what's happening:

Thursday, May 16, from 4-7pm at Signature of Solon will be our annual 3Chamber Business to Business Show.
My sincere apologies for the incorrect information in our last newsletter. Please register for this event today: I am certain you will benefit from this opportunity to network with other business professionals and get inspired by our speaker, Dr. Jason Carthen of Redeemed Management & Consulting. Dr. Carthen is a visionary, scholar, author, and former professional athlete who will present on the topic of "Unlocking Million Dollar Sales for Your Business". CLICK HERE for a registration form.

Wednesday, May 22, we are pleased to announce the return of our popular New Member Luncheon. Doogan's of Aurora has once again generously offered to host this opportunity for you and another potential member to enjoy a free lunch! Mid-year incentives will be offered to new members who join that day, and we will enjoy a presentation by Jim Smith, the Executive Happiness Coach. Jim will remind us how we control so much in our business and personal lives when we choose to approach every situation with positivity. Registration for this luncheon will begin after our April 11th 3Chamber Luncheon in Twinsburg, and an email will be sent.

Here's looking forward to a season of energized renewal. Please be in touch to let us know how we can best support your efforts to grow and flourish. We really should talk about it.

Now let's get busy....there is much to do!

Laura

Your Input is Important . . .
Stark State College Workforce Development Electronic Survey: Week of April 8, 2013

In April 2013, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) will be releasing its Round 3 - Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant program RFP. The program provides eligible institutions of higher education with funds to expand and improve their ability to deliver education and career training programs that can be completed in two years or less, and are suited for workers who are eligible for training under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for Workers Program as well as other adults. Stark State College is considering applying to the TAACCCT program but first it must assess the workforce needs of businesses in the region to determine if common skill sets training could be developed to strengthen the current and future workforce in the region.

Because of our commitment to workforce development through education, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce supports these efforts and will be working collaboratively with Stark State College to distribute an electronic survey to our members during the week of April 8, 2013. We encourage you to watch for an e-mail from us containing a link to the survey which we encourage you to complete if you have workforce development needs that might be addressed by a collaboration with the College.  As a member of multiple business-related organizations, you may receive this email and survey more than one time.  Please note that it is only necessary to respond to the survey one-time during this process.

Please feel free to contact the Chamber if you have any questions: 330-562-3355 or director@allaboutaurora.com.
