Austin Area Chamber to Host Public Forums for
Local and State Candidates

The Government Affairs Committee of the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce, together with KAUS 1480 AM Radio, will host two candidate forums, this month.  The public is invited.

State Legislative candidates for District 27B will debate state issues,
4-5 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, at the Holiday Inn-Austin Conference Center.  Incumbent Jeanne Poppe (DFL) and challenger Dennis Schminke (I-R) will be featured.  Topic areas will include state budget and taxes, education, transportation, healthcare and economic development.  John Wright, KAUS Community Service Director, will moderate the discussion.

Candidates for the Austin City Council and School Board will be featured in a separate forum, 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, in the
Austin City Council chambers.  Contested races for Austin City Council, Wards 2 & 3, will be presented first, followed by the six candidates vying for one of four open seats on the Austin School Board.  Questions from the candidates will be invited.

City Council candidates include:
Judy Enright and Jon Boyer in Ward 3
Brian Staska and Dave Hagan in Ward 2 

Unchallenged candidates for city council will also be invited to make brief remarks. 

Candidates for Austin School Board include:
Peggy Young, Don Fox, Kathy Green, Rolando Ocampo, Lisa Haase and Angie Goetz.
