No APS August Monthly Meeting

There will be no APS Monthly Meetings until September. The Critique group and the Open Mic continue during the summer.

APS Memberships Expiring

All APS memberships expired in May, so now is a great time to re-up for next year—don't miss out on any of the contests or great meetings. You can renew your membership at any Monthly Meeting or online here.
APS September Monthly Meeting

The APS September Monthly Meeting will be September 15 at Little Walnut Creek Library. The presenter will be Brittani Sonnenberg. The topic will be: I n Praise of the "Lazy" Poet: How embracing idleness can take your poetry to profoundly new places. Drawing on insights from poet Matthew Zapruder and the late Brenda Ueland, we will discuss the paradox of "work ethic" in a creative practice.

In Memoriam

Barbara Ann Youngblood Carr remains passionate musician, poet, performer, publisher, host of venues, carrier of Spirit via poetry, music, and sharing. She honors all who come in contact with her by an awareness of Nature and people that is unique. She brings ordinary life into Universal themes-from cockroaches to Fort Davis, Cherokee Dreaming to Indigenous stories. She encourages the young to see the world in different ways and the old to cherish the stories in their lives. She invests time, energy, and attention to the art and craft of community poetry, being a Foundation Board Member of Austin Poets International, Tablerock Poetry Festival, Austin Poetry Society, as well as running a BORDERS ON THE WORD venue for nearly two decades. Her specific contributions of energies creates poetry where no poetry was possible before. Her intelligence, wit, drive, and sense of humor enlivens so many readings in so many locations. Barbara gives to all, with a generosity of Spirit which ennobles all poetic processes. She needs to be remembered for her positive presence, for her sense of vision and purpose-for her capacities to lead and support in so many areas of poetic achievements. Barbara Youngblood Carr lives in this present moment, as long as you remember her.
