Austin Poetry Society Museletter
Monthly Meeting: February 17

Please join us for our monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Little Walnut Creek Library, 835 W Rundberg Ln, Austin.

Our guest speaker is Alan Berecka . He is a librarian at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. He has authored four full collections of poetry. His latest  The Hamlet of Stittville  is a collaboration with his boyhood friend John Klossner, a nationally known cartoonist whose work is often in seen in the  New Yorker.
  Berecka was named the poet laureate of Corpus Christi in February of 2017. In late 2017 he published his third chapbook,  The Fall of the Leaf  which is based on Imogene Holst's cello suite of the same name. The poems came about through a collaboration with Susan Sturman who is the first cellist of the Corpus Christi Orchestra and a professor of Music at Del Mar College.
APS Saturday Critique Group

Join the next meeting of the APS Saturday Critique Group Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1:30 p.m at the Old Quarry Branch Library, 7051 Village Center Dr., Austin.

Bring 10 copies of a poem in progress to discuss with friendly poets. The group is facilitated by Elizabeth Kropf. Email [email protected] for more information.
APS Open Mic Night

The next APS Fourth Thursday Open Mic Night will be Feb. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at NeWorlDeli , 4101 Guadalupe, hosted by Linda Marie Cossa.

This month's featured readers are: Steve Brooks, Thom the World Poet, Louise Richardson and Robin Barrett.

  • The Austin Poetry Society Annual Contest is now accepting entries, with more than 20 categories and cash prizes up to $200. The deadline to enter is April 1, and you must be a current member to qualify.

It features a different monthly theme and line up of artists who perform their original written works such as poetry, essays, and spoken word. This month’s theme is “Talk Dirty To Me.”

Celis Brewery/poet collaboration opportunity

Celis Brewery's Tap Room (10001 Metric Blvd., Austin) is planning a release party for its newest beer, an oatmeal stout called Dark Odyssey, at 5 p.m. Feb. 11, and is interested in collaborating with Austin Poetry Society members for a possible poetry performance during the release.
