Authority
As a teacher for 10 years, my students obeyed me. My classroom ran well. Parents were grateful, students enjoyed learning and administration was overjoyed.

But that wasn't the case in every room. In some rooms, kids ran wild. Parents were frustrated, students got hurt and administration was called in.

And at one point, I remember parents noticing that I carried myself with authority and administration asking me if I could pass that on to teachers around me.

And I tried. I did.

I talked. I prayed. I mentored. I encouraged.

But what I didn't realize back then, was that even when people are given authority, they have to choose to take it up.

Choose to exercise it. Choose to walk in it. Choose to grow into it.

And as I sit here today, thinking about authority, I'm reminded of the authority that you and I have been given as beloved children of God.

Authority over sickness. Authority over disease.  Authority over fear and anxiety and every other thing that sets itself up against God and His plan for your life, His plan for my life and His plan for the lives of those around us!

Yes, we, as beloved children of Almighty God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ, have been given authority!

Authority to bless. Authority to heal. Authority to break strongholds and set captives free!

And my prayer for each one of us is that we would choose to walk in that authority, that authority which God has already delegated to us, already bestowed upon us.

That we would choose accept it. Choose to believe it. Choose to use it.

Every moment. Of every day. For the rest of our lives.

To the glory of God. To reconcile people to Him. To bring Heaven to Earth.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. Luke 4:18-19 NLT

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, "Abba, Father."
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.  Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.  Romans 8:14-16
