January 14, 2013
Dear ,

The Autism Society of Greater New Orleans is pleased to announce the availability of our Winter (Jan. - Mar.) 2013 Newsletter.

In this issue of our newsletter you will find two very informative articles. One about planned violence not being linked to Autism and another about the transition process.

Our newsletter also has a Calendar of Events listing numerous in-person workshops and conferences available for you to attend to become more informed about Autism, its characteristics, and how to address some of its challenges. And it has many online training events that are available as well so you can learn in the comfort of your home or office just by using a computer and the Internet.

We also list many resources in our newsletter.  From Services Registry Dates for OCDD Waiver Programs, to opportunities for recreational activities as well as support group information.

Of particular importance in this issue are the Regional LaCAN & LaTEACH Roundtable events being offered this month.  One in New Orleans on Thursday, January 17th, one in Hammond on January 18th, and one in Mandeville on January 24th. We strongly recommend everyone to attend a Roundtable event nearest you so you can learn how to become involved in making sure Louisiana provides appropriate educational and community services for children and adults with disabilities. You will learn skills related to systems change advocacy, about the upcoming legislative agendas for LaCAN & LaTEACH, and how to develop relationships with your legislators. You will also have an opportunity to meet other parents and advocates who share similar beliefs related to the services for and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities.

Last but not least, feel free to contact us for more individualize assistance. You can reach us by calling 504-464-5733 and leaving a message on our voicemail system. Or you can Email us at gnoasachapter@yahoo.com. You can also call our national office for assistance at 1-800-3AUTISM or 1-800-328-8476 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

And be sure to visit our website at www.autism-society.org/chapter168 and join our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/asgno.

We hope you enjoy our newsletter and share it with your family and friends as well!

Take care,

Kathy
