Lisa Cunningham Fine Art

Down the shore, locals and visitors alike hold value for the places they have traveled to and raise
their families in. Award-winning artist Lisa Cunningham channels this sentiment into her  pastel paintings of the special places in people's lives-- using color and light to evoke  cherished memories.

Raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Cunningham became accustomed to drawing her natural surroundings and sharing her work with family and friends. After earning degrees in fine art and education at Keystone College and Kutztown University, she decided to paint house and  business portraits, often illustrating homes within the Seven Mile Beach and throughout Pennsylvania.

Cunningham is dedicated to using her artistic talent to help others memorialize and celebrate the places that bring them joy. With soft pastels and the use of light and passion, Cunningham's artistic representations of people's homes and lifestyles are true treasures.

Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund, Inc.
2170 Dune Drive, 609-967-0100
brendansfund.org

Brendan Borek loved to surf and was known for spending hours on the beach waiting for the high tides which brought the best surfing conditions. It was only natural that his friends began to wish him "high tides" conditions throughout his battle with cancer. Following his passing, his family and friends continue to honor his spirit and feelings for community good through establishing Brendan's Fund.

Since 1992, the fund has been supporting families with ill children. As of the fall of 2015, through the Brendan Borek Endowed Fund, services have been provided to the families of Cape May and Atlantic Counties by the Child Life Specialist Team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The fund continues to fulfill its mission with events all year long.

Tuesday kicked of the annual week of summer fundraising with the annual Artists & Friends Art Show at the Avalon Yacht Club. Bonnie's Toppings hosted a fundraising event all day on Wednesday, and the fundraising continues today with Pancakes at the Fishin' Pier Grill in Avalon and Stone Harbor from 6:30am to 1:30pm. On Friday, Aug. 4, there will be a special "Crab Cakes at Sylvester's Fish Market" event to support the cause. On Saturday, Aug. 5, there will be a "Shop at the Spot" event where a portion of all proceeds from the day will benefit Brendan's Fund.

Brendan Borek Memorial High Tide Fund represents the community coming together for a significant cause. To learn more about events and how to donate click here.

Avalon History Center Opens Classic Fishing Exhibit

If your family ever fished the bays in and around Avalon in the 1970's, chances are you either started or ended your trip at the Avalon Anchorage. Whether to rent one of their boats, fuel up your own, pick up bait and tackle, or - at the end of the day, weigh in a big catch - the Avalon Anchorage was a fisher's Mecca.

Join the Avalon History Center on Friday, Aug. 11 at 7pm, at the unveiling of the Avalon Anchorage Fishing Exhibit - featuring more than 400 classic photographs restored from owner Stanley Penska's collection. Photos, restored by Seven Mile Times, feature recordings of proud catches from the late 1970s and early 80s.
