LAURA KEMSHALL

My dear friend Laura Kemshall has two exciting courses taking place this summer, so why not check these out.

Altered Books ~ 9th July 2014 ~ 10am-4pm
Worfield Village Hall, Worfield, Bridgnorth, Shropshire
A one-day introduction to the exciting process of creating altered books.

Transform an old, un-loved book into a work of art! Starting with the basics of preparing pages we'll explore some of the best tactics and techniques for book altering. You'll be led by your chosen book, modifying the original structure with cutting and additions before customising the pages with mixed media, paint, print and collage. Liberating, experimental and highly addictive, what more can I say! During the class there will be ample opportunity to study examples of altered books and gather ideas to take home.
Workshop fee: 75 to include all art materials.

Monoprint ~ 23rd July 2014 ~10am-4pm
Worfield Village Hall, Worfield, Bridgnorth, Shropshire
A one-day introduction to monoprint techniques for paper and fabric

Got a Gelli plate and want to come play? Discover the wonderful immediacy of monoprint. We'll experiment with a range of approaches working on both paper and fabric to build a collection of materials. As well as the basic skills of monoprint we'll explore scale, mark making and neat ideas for combining monoprint with stencilling. During the class we'll chat about the potential of the prints created and how they might be taken further at home. Oh, and don't worry if you don't have a Gelli Plate I'll be providing simple plastic alternatives that'll work just as well.
Workshop fee: 75 to include all art materials.

Schwaebische Kunstsommer

Suebian Summer School of the Fine Arts, Bavaria, Germany

2nd - 10th August 2014

I did mention in my last newsletter that I am booked to teach in Bavaria this August. Unfortunately the bookings are not very good for my course so I am hoping that you could promote this through your networks for me. Here is a glimpse again of what people would be coming to..............................how wonderful is this for a full week of creativity.

Meaningful approaches to 'drawing' for textile art

The mark put onto a surface whether paper or cloth can be simply changed by the use of the tool, the media employed or by changing the surface on which you are working. These are the areas that students will initially be investigating both on paper and onto fabric. You will be building, developing and pushing along your ideas, with the introduction of processes and techniques as appropriate. Armed with a collection of possibilities students will be then encouraged to developed their own individual responses on paper and cloth. You will leave the course bursting with ideas for developing your personal expressive voice in textile art.
