Barrow Rejects News and Free Press Editorial Boards' Endorsement Process

Say Obvious Lack of Objectivity Hurts Credibility with Majority of City Residents

DETROIT (July 5th) --- Detroit Mayoral candidate Tom Barrow today informed both the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press Editorial Boards that he will not participate in their endorsement process due to their "demonstrated bias and advocacy to overturn the rule of law in favor of their own already selected candidate."

Barrow stated "As fond as each is in advocating that the people should have choices, we choose to say 'No thank you' ".

When the Michigan Court of Appeals rejected Duggan's candidacy, the Free Press's instant editorial offered an insulting description of the legal decision's affect on their chosen hero calling him "...[A] victim of a jealous mayoral rival and appellate judges bent on subordinating the rights of voters to a literal and absurd interpretation of the law."

Barrow wrote: "If we are to create a new paradigm in this city, a new way of doing things, then we must embrace a future which includes more voices than an establishment media force-feeding us their preferred candidates in spite of the will of the people.

Detroit is at a pivotal moment in the city's history, the citizens are demanding that we embrace change. By my rejecting the Editorial Board endorsement process of the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press, we bring attention to the clearly unprofessional behavior and obvious biases of the Editorial Boards which permeates their political comments which has so negatively affected our city and the spirit of its people. On their behalf, we take a stand, like Neo in The Matrix, against their system of control."

In response to questionnaires sent to candidates, Barrow rejected the publication's Editorial Board's questionairres due to their unabashed support of former candidate Mike Duggan claiming that it displays a "blatant bias against legitimate candidates, resident Detroiters and the most obvious preference for a candidate in the city's modern history."
