Last month, Beyond Boobs! was fortunate to be able to send 16 survivors to the Annual Young Survivor's Conference (C4YW) held in Seattle, WA.

And now a word from our Boober!, Corinne, who used this experience to learn, bond, connect, and support.

 Dear Friends,

It is a bit of a challenge to describe in a few sentences what an amazing experience this event was for me and my Boober! Sisters. Just meeting 600+ wonderful women diagnosed with breast cancer from all over the US was moving. These women represented all ages, backgrounds, diagnoses, and stages (0 to 4.) Some were recently diagnosed and others were long term survivors.  These remarkable women do not just cope with this horrible disease, but actually thrive. They live their lives with gusto! Strength and courage are seemingly inexhaustible in this group. Being amongst them I could not help but be inspired. Up to date information on Hormonal Therapy, Clearing the Clutter in our Minds, and how to deal with our Fear of Recurrence were some notable workshops I attended. The presentations gave useful information allowing us to be more participatory in our treatments and daily lives.

We formed and reinforced friendships and came home all excited and energized to share our newfound knowledge. I hope that our sponsors, staff, supporters and volunteers realize what a difference they make with this gift. This was not just a very welcomed weekend away; this was another life changing couple of days provided by Beyond Boobs! While being in the middle of my journey, attending this conference renewed my resolve not to be beaten by this thing, in body, mind nor spirit. A big fat thank you for that.

                               Boober! Hugs, Corinne

(Thank you to  our donors who made this experience possible.  Beyond Boobs! was able to extend educational grants to our members, and travel  assistance was provided by C4YW and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Tidewater Affiliate.)

American Foods Chockfull of Ingredients Banned in Other Countries ~Dr. Mercola

More than 3,000 food additives -- preservatives, flavorings, colors and other ingredients -- are added to foods in the United States. While each of these substances are legal to use in the US, whether or not they are safe for long-term consumption -- by themselves or in combination -- is a different story altogether. Many have been deemed too harmful to use in other countries. When you consider that about 90 percent of the money Americans spend on food goes toward processed foods loaded with these additives, it's no wonder most people are carrying a hefty toxic load that can wreak havoc on their health. A list of ingredients that are banned across the globe but still allowed for use in America recently made the news. The list is featured in the new book, Rich Food, Poor Food, authored by nutritionist Mira Calton and her husband Jayson. Click HERE to read more...

Juanita ~ March Calendar Model

53, diagnosed at 46
No Family History

Teacher's assistant, wife, mother, and now grandmother, Juanita had bleeding from her nipple and immediately contacted her doctor. Wasting no time, the doctor's office scheduled diagnostic testing which led to a biopsy and diagnosis of breast cancer.  Juanita had a mastectomy with reconstruction on both breasts followed by chemotherapy.  Ongoing hormonal therapy reduces her risk of recurrence.  Juanita's friends rallied around her, even throwing a going away party for "the girls" prior to surgery.  She then discovered new friends at Beyond Boobs! about whom she says, "They have the knowledge of Socrates and the strength of Samson. These ladies you don't want to mess with if you're a cancer cell." She misses the person she was before cancer, but being in this calendar has given Juanita a way to prove to herself that we all have the power to reinvent ourselves with a little help from our friends and God.

(Juanita is portrayed in 'Time Well Spent' by Henry Lee Battle)
