BBR and Minichamps making news today with the announcement that BBR will produce a series of high detail 1/18 scale diecast models of current Ferrari Grand Prix cars to be distributed exclusively by Minichamps worldwide.
of the current Ferrari SF16-H will be produced initially. Both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen versions of the cars as raced in Australia, China and Italy have been announced. The models will be priced at $265.00, lower than BBR's standard range of resin repicas.
Minichamps has not been involved with the production or distribution of Ferrari F1 diecast models since the late 1990s when Mattel negotiated an exclusive license with Ferrari for their Hot Wheels line.
stepped in when Mattel's license expired two years ago and is producing models of similar quality as Mattel at less than half the price.
With today's announcement, collectors enter a new era. Never before has a manufacturer with BBR's reputation for high-end collector models produced modern day Formula 1 diecast. Although the company primarily uses resin, several years ago they released a series of diecast 1/18 Ferrari 375 plus models that were very well recieved by collectors. We hope to see a similar reaction to today's news.
