The skiing has been absolutely phenomenal. This time of year...if you hit it right, blue sky days with perfect snow temperature. That's what we had this past weekend. We did get a little bit of snow earlier this week, but the warm days have loosened the snow surface to the soft corn snow that we all love... "Corn-on-the-cob!"
This is the BEST time of year if you are a buyer. As the snow starts to disappear and the ski season comes to a close, sellers generally get a little more motivated to sell. WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH - On March 20-22, local snowsports club, Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers (BBTS) played host to 166 of the best J4 racers in the east at the USSA Marriot J4 Eastern Junior Championships. Athletes competed in slalom and giant-slalom with hopes of skiing their
way to an invite to represent the United States at the 2011 Can Am Championships at Mount Tremblant in early April. BBTS was well represented at the J4 Eastern Junior Championships, qualifying 14 athletes, with 9 earning a ticket to the 2011 CanAm Championships. "We have a lot of happy kids. Well deserved," says J4 program director, Fred Turton. Under bluebird skies on Sunday, March 20th, racers took on a challenging slalom course winding its way down the World Cup racing hill. The boys and girls from BBTS, skiing on their home hill, landed two podiums and five more athletes in the top twenty. For the boys, Benjamin Slater placed 9th, Hunter Brayton placed 13th, and Giovanni Lazzari placed
20th. The BBTS girls skied amazingly with Katie Campbell winning the slalom race. Kelsie Grant stood beside Katie on the podium placing 2nd, Gabrielle Quimby placed 8th, and Grace Travers placed 16th. After a day off on Monday, athletes shifted gears and put the pedal down for the Giant Slalom event. Waterville Valley local, Hunter Brayton, placed 12th for the boys skiing two solid runs. The BBTS girls landed six in the top twenty with Kelsie Grant placing 3rd, Anna Foley in 4th, Katie Campbell in 5th, Ashley Houser in 8th, Risa Mosenthal in 10th and
Gabrielle Quimby in 13th. It was another great day of racing as athletes skied their best in a very competitive field. Combining the two events, 60 athletes, 30 girls and 30 boys, qualified for the 2011 CanAm Championships. Representing BBTS and the United States will be Hunter Brayton, Katie Campbell, Anna Foley, Kelsie Grant, Ashley Howser, Walker Huff, Risa Mosenthal, Gabrielle Quimby and Ben Slater. Congratulations to all the BBTS J4 athletes who qualified for the Easter Junior
Championships and good luck the boys and girls heading to Mount
Tremblant!
