**NEW EXHIBIT COMING JULY 2014!**
To mark the 60th anniversary of the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, we are excited to unveil a new signature exhibition entitled "
A Week You'll Remember A Lifetime." The signature exhibition is set to open to the public on Wednesday, July 30th exactly sixty years after the opening of 1954 Games and will feature unseen artifacts, rare archival and interview footage, and untold stories from the unforgettable '54 Games that thrust Vancouver onto the world scene.
Highlights of the games and stories we will cover include:
- The Miracle Mile featuring Sir Roger Bannister and Sir John Landy
- The Collapse of English marathon legend Jim Peters
- The Upset Victory of the Cinderella UBC-VRC rowing eights crew, and much, much more!

Sun Run Stories: 30 Years Running Exhibit Launch
On March 11, 2014 the BC Sports Hall of Fame opened our current Special Exhibition Sun Run Stories: 30 Years Running! The exhibition celebrates The Vancouver Sun Run's incredible thirty year legacy, charting the story of its growth from local race to its current status as an international phenomenon attracting local, national and international talent. Highlights include: Tiko Kerr paintings, a nostalgic look at past and present Vancouver Sun Run
T-Shirts, unique artifacts and stories from race organizers, volunteers, and participants. There is also a "Memory Wall" where visitors are encouraged to share their favourite Sun Run story. If you ran the race this year, be sure to bring in your running rib to receive for half price admission.

2014 Tournament of Champions
Our popular golf event the Tournament of Champions presented by Canadian Direct Insurance will be held on Thursday, June 26 at the prestigious Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the event support the Hall and our programs. We still have room for a few more teams and are looking for $300 hole sponsors and prizing. The 46th Annual Banquet of Champions presented by Canadian Direct Insurance will take place on Thursday, September 25th. Heritage Classic - NHL Trophies on Display
Courtesy of the National Hockey League and the Hockey Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame was proud to host the NHL trophies from February 26 through March 2 in celebration of the Heritage Classic showdown at BC Place. Trophy highlights included: Hart, Vezina, James Norris, Calder, Lady Byng, Jack Adams Award, Bill Masterton, NHL General Manager of the Year Award and the Ted Lindsay Award.
The Stanley Cup also made an appearance, much to the delight of local hockey fans, who eagerly lined up to pose with the Cup. Thank you to the NHL and to the ever gracious Keepers of the Cup, Philip Pritchard and Craig Campbell.

Outreach
Prince George and Mission
Sport In BC - Choose Your Path is now not only an in house exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame it is an outreach exhibit! Our outreach team look the exhibit to Prince George to coincide with the 2015 Canada Winter Games one year countdown. BC Sports Hall of Fame staff delivered Hero In You presentations to schools in gyms packed with a great crowd of enthusiastic children and teachers. After touring in Prince George, the display went to Mission as part of the BC Winter Games. The exhibit was well received by all visitors especially with the appearance of Honoured Member Eden Donatelli Green (speed skating). We look forward to visiting more community celebrations over the coming months including National Aboriginal Day and the BC Summer Games in Nanaimo.

Congratulations to Bill Maclagan, Q.C. - President's Award Recipient
On March 5th, BC Sports Hall of Fame Trustee and Past-Chair Bill Maclagan, Q.C. was recognized by Sport BC as a winner of the President's Award. This award recognizes extraordinary volunteers whose dedication and tireless efforts have contributed significantly to the development of a sport or an organization. Congratulations and thank you Bill from all of us at the BC Sports Hall of Fame!

Past Chairs' Luncheon
On February 26 we hosted the Annual Past Chairs' Luncheon. Current Chair Al Tynan hosted the group who were treated with a tour of the Hall including a sneak peek at future exhibit plans. A highlight of the day was viewing of the National Hockey League trophies up close and personal before the doors opened to the general public.

Outreach Presentations
Kingswood Elementary school was treated to a double feature of our Hero In You program on April 11th!
The mission behind the Hero In You is to inspire and motivate students to achieve their goals through the stories of inspirational BC Sports Hall of Famers. On April 11th we had not one, but two Honoured Members present to Kingswood Elementary School children in a session coordinated through the 60 Minute Kids Club. Joining the session were former BC Lions player Sean Millington (Inducted 2010) and Brent Hayden (Inducted 2013). At first glance, swimming and football may appear unconnected, but the core of what Sean and Brent shared during their impressive careers was one crucial takeaway: hard work and determination certainly pay off, whether it was putting extra time in at the pool, or doing a late night workout to build strength. The students really enjoyed watching Brent's exciting race footage, and were equally impressed to learn about Sean's work in Hollywood movies after football. Thank you Kingswood Elementary for being such great participants, and good luck with the completion of your 60 Minute Kids Club challenge at the top! Thank you for taking the time to read our spring newsletter, we hope you enjoy learning about our activities over the last few months and are excited for what is upcoming. The next few months promise to be exciting for the BC Sports Hall of Fame with:
-
our annual premier events the Tournament of Champions and the Banquet of Champions;
-
our New All Access Experience which provides visitors with a behind the scenes look at BC Place including a peak into the lockers rooms of the Vancouver Whitecaps and BC Lions; and
-
the opening of our signature exhibit "A Week You'll Remember a Lifetime" commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
On a personal note I would like to thank the Hall of Fame community for the exceptional support I have received in my first year as Executive Director. 2014 marks twenty years that I have had the great fortune to work at the BC Sports Hall of Fame. I have learned so much since starting my two month contract as a tour guide in 1994 including more stats and facts about the great moments in BC sport history than I thought possible. More importantly I have been endlessly inspired by the stories of our Honoured Members, the trust our donors continuously show our organization and the endless commitment of our hard working volunteers. Thank you everyone for a great twenty years and I look forward to continued inspiration.
2014 also marks twenty years since:

Honoured Member Angela Chalmers carried the Canadian flag at the opening ceremony of the Victoria Commonwealth Games;
-
Honoured Member Trevor Linden lead the Vancouver Canucks on a memorable journey to the Stanley Cup Finals; and
-
Honoured Member Lui Passaglia kicked the winning field goal to secure a hometown Grey Cup victory for the BC Lions
