BCC'S TOUR TO PRAGUE AND BERLIN
A HUGE SUCCESS!

June 25 to July 5, sixty-nine BCC singers, ten BCC staff, and twenty-one BCC board members, parents and friends traveled to Prague and Berlin on BCC's Liberation tour.  There are too many highlights to share but a few memorable moments include the choir's visit to the Terezin concentration camp, the Spanish Synagogue in Prague's Jewish Quarter, and performances at the Lobkowicz Palace and in Berlin with the Deutscher Jugendkammerchor (German Youth Chamber Choir).

One of our singers wrote, "The highlight of the entire trip was performing at the Spanish Synagogue three works commemorating Terezin's 70th anniversary of its liberation. The acoustics and the sound was so pure and majestic, it made even the composers cry.  The feeling and emotion that ran through the hall is something I've never seen before and am so proud to have been a part of it."

Thank you so much to all the friends and supporters who made this trip possible, especially the Terezin Music Foundation, Bayer Corporation and all our kick starter supporters.  Our singers will carry this trip in their hearts and minds for a very long time.

BCC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: GRACE THOMPSON
"What a fantastic summer it has been!"

Just one week after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance, I began working at the BCC as a Programs Assistant for the summer. It has been such a joy to be able to return to the organization that I believe has shaped me into the strong, confident person that I am today.

It was my experience as a member of the Boston Children's Chorus that influenced me to study music in college, and encouraged me to pursue many positions of leadership during those years -- such as the positions of president and music director of my college's all-female a cappella group, and philanthropy chair for my sorority.

Although my future plans as a musician are uncertain, my plan for now is to stay in the Boston area for the year, take voice lessons to prepare for graduate school auditions, and find a job in the arts with a mission similar to that of the BCC. Throughout my entire job search process, the BCC staff has been unbelievably supportive. They have provided resume and cover letter advice, networking opportunities, and recommendations that have ultimately led to several job interviews and even job offers.

I feel so lucky to have this organization in my corner. If I didn't know it before, I know it now -- once you join the Boston Children's Chorus, you're family for life.  I am forever grateful.

FINDING FAY
BCC was honored to participate in the Finding Fay Free Family Festival on Saturday, September 12 at the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA).  Fay Chandler died in Brighton on March 3, 2015 after 92 years of giving back to the community through her art and philanthropy.  Over 40 organizations positively impacted by Fay over her life gathered together at the BCA Cyclorama to celebrate her life by making music and art together.
BCC's impact is due to the generous support and vision of people like Fay Chandler. We will miss her but her vision lives on!

Please join a free celebratory concert at 7pm on Tuesday, September 15 presented by the Boston Landmarks Orchestra featuring a mix of Fay's favorite music at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University.  Highlights include a new work by New England Conservatory's Larry Bell, and pieces by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, and even a Calypso Medley.  Seats on a first come first served basis and the doors open at 6:15pm   More information here.
BCC HONORED WITH TWO STATE FUNDED GRANTS

BCC is honored to announce the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) has awarded BCC two grants for this fiscal year.  BCC has been promoted to the highest level of the Cultural Investment Portfolio and

has received a three-year grant from the MCC's new SerHacer program.

SerHacer is focused on supporting ensemble-based music programs that use music as a vehicle for social change.  The program is inspired by the work of El Sistema.  BCC is honored to be among a wonderful slate of programs to receive this grant.  Click here for a list of recipients.

Thank you to our legislatures, the voters, arts advocates and you for supporting the passing of this year's FY16 MCC Budget increase to $12 million dollars, which no doubt enabled BCC and other organizations throughout the state to receive this funding.
