PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings to all BCGS Members and Friends,

Happy summer to everyone!  We had a terrific meeting on June 6th, when Patrick Connelly, NARA Archivist, spoke to our large group on military research, in honor of the anniversary of D-Day.  There were lots of questions and everyone who attended surely learned something new.

Although we have no meeting in July, our Board and our Ancestry Fair Committee continues to meet and plan our "bigger and better" fair in September.  Our new Ancestry Fair website has been launched - check it out at www.ancestryfair.org.

We've received two donations this month:  The Samuel Thompson family Bible, and an original Civil War diary (author unknown).  We'll be scanning these and making them available on our website soon.  If you're interested in helping with the scanning, please let us know!

We hope you will plan to join us at our next meeting on August 1st, to learn about Quaker records.  See you then!

Warm Regards,
Christine Roberts

9th Annual Bucks County Ancestry Fair
Saturday, September 19, 2015
to be held at Bucks County Community College,  in Newtown, PA

The Ancestry Fair committee has met several times since January and plans are developing for a terrific event!  Exhibitor tables are filling up fast, and almost all the speaker slots are filled as well.  Check the latest information on the Ancestry Fair website: http://www.ancestryfair.org/

We need your help to make this a successful event!  If you want more information about volunteer opportunities or want to sign up to serve a couple of hours on the day of the event, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Peg Felter, at  [email protected] .

REFRESHMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE AUGUST MEETING

Can you help for this meeting or a later date?

We need someone to pick up two containers of coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. Both places supply the cups, stirrers, sugar and cream.  You will reimbursed by the BCGS treasurer at the meeting.  We also need one person to bring a snack.

Also, if you are a member and bring refreshments to a meeting, the meeting fee is waived. If you are a non-member and bring refreshments, the meeting fee is reduced from $10 to $5.

To sign up, please contact Joann Cosgrove at  [email protected]

DO YOU HAVE ROOTS IN DEVON UK?

You might want to check out the Devon Family History Society's website at:  http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/.

The website has a variety of pages providing information, maps and describing the many Devon parishes.  They would love to hear from you about your Devon roots and research.

The Cemetery Assessment Project (CAP) still needs your help.

There are only 55 cemeteries for which CAP forms are still needed.

You don't need to go to the cemetery...just check this  cemetery list, pick a cemetery in your neighborhood, and complete the CAP form.

Most of the information can be found on the Internet or by calling the cemetery management company or nearby church.

Complete as much as you can - don't worry about trying  to fill in everything on the CAP form   - and return it to Joann Cosgrove at  [email protected]

We appreciate your help!  Thank you.
