Lineage Society Workshop:Is This the Right Document?

Presented by Marguerite Ann Bock Mogila.

Lineage societies are organizations that require members to be direct descendants of an ancestor fitting the qualifications of a particular society.  The Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society are among the more prominent lineage societies.

During our research we have gathered many documents with various information regarding our ancestors and we feel confident that we have proven our kinship, but have we?

This workshop will help you identify whether your document is an original source or derivative, primary or secondary, direct or indirect, and how it relates to an application for membership in a lineage society.

                                   About the speaker:                                          Marguerite Mogila

Marguerite Mogila is Treasurer and Charter member of the Bucks County Genealogical Society. She is also a member of the Lineage Research Committee of the Washington Crossing Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having completed their three year Genealogy Education programs. Mrs. Mogila of Scotch, Irish and English heritage, has been researching her family history for thirty years.  Influenced by the 1944 movie, The Canterville Ghost, she has been romanticizing about her ancestors and hasn't found a family ghost yet! She is currently working on membership to the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the War of 1812.

CHUCK GOODENOUGH

We are sad to report that Charles (Chuck) Darwin Goodenough, 56, passed away on July 17th, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Chuck was the son of BCGS Charter Member, Mary Goodenough, and brother of BCGS President, Christine Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chuck's name to Friends of Last Chance Canyon in Ridgecrest, California, a charitable tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (www.tflcc.org) which is dedicated to preserving and sharing historic sites within the El Paso Mountains.

WASHINGTON DC TRIP - SEPTEMBER 25 & 26
CENTRAL JERSEY GENEALOGY CLUB
SPECIAL INVITATION TO BCGS MEMBERS

The Central Jersey Genealogy Club is planning a trip to Washington DC on Sept 25 and 26. This is an overnight trip.  We would carpool down - depending on our numbers, we may need an extra driver - to College Park, Md, check into the motel if we can and then go to the Metro station for an afternoon's research in the city.   The agencies we generally visit are the National Archives, Library of Congress and DAR.   Of course, if there are other places someone desires to visit, they certainly can do so. I will be checking with a motel for their group rate.

Please send this to all your club members so they can be thinking about it.    I would like to be at your Aug 3 meeting to describe the trip in a little more detail.  In the meantime, if any of your members want to go, please have them email me at [email protected] so that I can start determining the number of rooms we'll need, meeting place for carpooling, etc.
