A Word From Dr. Walner
Dr. William Walner, Principal

Late Start Tuesday
Late Start Tuesday begins  tomorrow morning, September 1st.

This schedule adjustment is new and different for Bethany Christian School and is an outcome from the ACSI/WASC Accreditation visit last year.  The visiting committee left six major recommendations that have been integrated into BCS's school-wide action plan. Two of the recommendations require that administration and faculty develop and implement systems for effective analysis of student assessments, as well as ongoing work on the alignment of the school curriculum from preschool through eighth grade. These are important tasks for the faculty, which cannot be done during the school day. Hence, Late Start Tuesday is an effort to provide our faculty quality, uninterrupted time to work collaboratively on these school-wide goals that will improve the BCS instructional program.

Students may be delivered to school at the regular time, or as late as  8:40am. The opening ceremonies will begin at  8:40am (students arriving after  8:40am will be tardy). The morning supervision staff and I are identifying meaningful activities for students who arrive between  8:10am and  8:40am.

Thank you for your cooperation as we settle into this new schedule. As always, we welcome your perspective and are glad to respond to any questions you may have.

Back to School Night 2015
Back To School Night
This Thursday, September 3 @ 6:00pm

Parents! You are invited to come to Back-To-School-Night  this Thursday evening,  September 3, at  6:00 PM.  Our theme for the evening is "Write the Vision, Make it Plain."
The evening begins with a mixer in the Courtyard, from  6:00 to 6:15 PM , hosted by the Parent Teacher Fellowship. Parents will transition to the Church Sanctuary for our Opening Assembly which will begin promptly at  6:20 PM .
The Opening Assembly will feature an introduction of the BCS faculty and staff, a word from Dr. Walner, and an overview of the year's PTF activities. Parents will then transition to their children's classrooms to hear their child's teacher(s) share the vision for the year.
Due to the nature of the evening, we are not able to provide childcare. Please arrange to have your children cared for at home. If you are not able to arrange for childcare, please plan to have your children remain with you for the evening.

Morning Drop Off Procedures
Safety First

We've made some adjustments to morning drop off procedures to enhance student safety and minimize morning confusion.

Quick points:

1. Enter from Montecito or Highland. (Exit on Highland.)
2. Preschool Parents: Park in designated spaces and walk with your children to sign in.
3. K-8 Parents: Pull forward through the carline to the STOP Sign. Put your car in PARK. Do not use your cell phone. Bless your kids. Students should exit from passenger side. Once doors are closed, move forward to exit onto Highland.
4. If you are staying for pledges or business in the school office or classroom, please drop your K-8 students off at carline first, then park and walk in.

Many thanks for your cooperation. Our staff is glad to help however we can.

Love is... Chapel 2015
Love Is...
2015-2016 Chapel Theme

As students gathered for chapel last Friday, this year's chapel theme, Love Is..., was discussed.

Did you know that the word 'love' does not appear in the book of Acts one time? And yet, this will be the text used to study all about love this year.  Students will learn first hand that love is much more than a word on a page.

Off and running...
Beginning our 40th year, together

Last Thursday marked the beginning of the 40th academic year at Bethany Christian School.  Like the first day of every school year, this one was full of new uniforms and tennis shoes, parents taking pictures, friends reunitin g, introductions to new classmates, and a new place to line up. An enthusiastic Dr. Walner shook hands with families as they drove through car drop-off and walked on campus. Preschool Director, Lynn Elliott and Academic Dean, Melody Heal, also welcomed families to the first morning gathering of the year.

PTF provided a lovely spread of coffee and yummy treats to help ease the reality of the return to alarm clocks and school schedules.  Before dismissing students to classrooms, Dr. Walner led parents, faculty and the BCS student body in the first flag salute and prayer of the 40th year. What a perfect way to begin.
