Speaker: Tony Cárdenas, Public Affairs Regional Manager, O.C. Division, League of California Cities

Join us as we find out what is being done to re-energize our state and get its economic engine firing on all cylinders. Our speaker, Mr. Tony Cárdenas, Public Affairs Regional Manager, OC Division, League of California Cities, will cover a variety of topics including:
  • statewide budget update geared toward business
  • pension reform (the league has been working hard on this)
  • the effect the redevelopment agencies being dissolved is having on cities throughout California
  • ballot measures coming up in November
The League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources so that they may influence policy decisions that affect cities. They also work to expand and protect local control for cities through education and advocacy to enhance the quality of life for all Californians.

Speaker: Tony Cárdenas has served as a three-term state assemblyman and is now a Los Angeles City Councilman for District 6. As a UCSB engineering alumnus, Cárdenas was trained to find practical/realistic solutions to difficult problems. He has secured more than $650 million for new school construction in Los Angeles to help relieve over-crowding in classes.

Born and raised in Pacoima, Cárdenas is bringing his knowledge as the former Chairman of the state's powerful budget committee to the city. His state reforms brought 78,000 new classroom seats to LA and more than 15 universal playgrounds to disabled families.
