Well I don't know about you but I could do with a bit of warmth and sunshine. I wanted to send you a picture of new growths in the garden, but all I can offer you I am afraid to say is 'MUD'.

Not that I want to put any of you off from coming here, as I promise you it is nice and cosy in the studio, with its underfloor heating!!!

Still we are heading in the right direction and I must say I do love the changing seasons that we experience in this part of the world. I will stop complaining now.

So what is there to look forward to in the studio soon.
JENNIFER COLLIER

'Paper Lampshades'               16/17 April                 £130 for 2 days

Stafford based artist Jennifer Collier is an extraordinary artist who has a distinctive way of working. She practices her art from her studio in Stafford, which is part of her gallery 'Unit Twelve'.

The basis of her practice involves stitching recycled papers to create delightfully detailed objects. These can be almost anything from a typewriter to clothing of all sorts, from a sewing machine to a watering-can......all exquisitely executed. She also has a passion for  reusing and transforming unloved discarded books.

Jennifer graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999 and has since won several awards including the BCTF Award for Excellence in 2004 and 'Best in Show' award at the The London Craft Fair in 2007.

On the course at Moor Hall this April, Jennifer will be showing you how to make these beautiful paper lampshades.  Described by Jennifer as 'luxury' lampshades, that is certainly what they are. You will create  your own beautiful recycled paper lampshade using lovely vintage papers and by upcycling existing frames. You will be shown all steps of the process, from how to create a pattern to fit your frame, to how to stitch the papers together to form the shade.

Jennifer is very organised and most generous with all the information that she shares with her students.

You  will be taught embellishment techniques, such as embossing, stamping, and various hand and machine stitches to decorate your light shade. Jennifer will provide all materials but asks students to bring along any special maps, papers, or books you may wish to incorporate and a lampshade frame to up-cycle (panel lampshades as pictured, rather than barrel) or Jennifer will have them available to buy on the day for £4-£9.

A fabulous course which is very popular and one where the skills can be applied to so many other projects.

'Everyone can Draw'        6/7 April             £130 for 2 days

I believe I can inspire you to draw. That's if you want to learn! Its funny that as we get older we become more fearful of making a mark on paper, but it really is not so difficult. I would suggest that if you can write you name then you can draw, but you just might need a little bit of guidance along the way. So please join me.
