A note from Katie:
If you have ever attended an event hosted by Between the Covers, you know that we are not very content to do things by the book. We are continually seeking ways to partner with other businesses and organizations, and to illustrate how strongly the various elements of this place are linked to one another.
We are also still considered an infant in the world of bookstores. Event opportunities are not handed to us. We make them happen, with an eye toward building a reputation of import to authors, publishers and, most importantly, to you, our readers.
So all I ask is this: take a look at what we have going on this summer. If something interests you, please plan to attend. Good things happen because good people make them happen.
Thank you for being a part of what we do.

This past weekend, we learned just how many people can benefit from attending an event for a few short hours - foragers got to meet the wonderful Lisa Rose; Lisa and the bookstore sold copies of an essential book; The Outfitter sold select foraging gear and was able to spread the message to "Seek Your Adventure;" and all of those sales benefited Little Traverse Conservancy and the great work they do.

The following two upcoming events are also co-hosted by The Outfitter, and are the final two of this series of three events this summer, of which a portion of proceeds will be donated to Little Traverse Conservancy in memory of Packy Offield.

Between the Covers is pleased to host Josh Cohen, lead author and heritage ecologist of A Field Guide to the Natural Communities in Michigan, to our
beautiful part of the state. The culmination of three decades of work by Michigan Natural Features Inventory ecologists, this essential guidebook to the natural communities of Michigan introduces the diverse terrain of a unique state. Small enough to carry in a backpack, this field guide provides a system for dividing the complex natural landscape of Michigan into easily understood and describable components called natural communities. An invaluable resource, this book is meant to serve as a tool for those seeking to understand, describe, document, conserve, and restore the diversity of natural communities native to Michigan.

Between the Covers welcomes individuals and groups to join us for refreshments, a presentation, Q&A and signing.
