BHS FILMMAKERS WIN PRESTIGIOUS COMPETITION
Three shorts by twelve students in Ballard High School's Digital Filmmaking Program have won honors at the Dominique Dunne Film Competition in Colorado Springs. This competition actively seeks and invites entries from schools with outstanding film programs throughout the United States and abroad. It has only two categories: Documentary and Dramatic Narrative. Each school is limited to only four entries.
Maya Konz, Nolan Baker, Bailey Wall and Kajsa Woolford won 1st Prize in the Documentary category for

by Miles Andersen, Josh Gaynor-Cote, Willow Hudson and Jesse Romero. It received an Honorable Mention. In the Dramatic category, Avery Davis, Aaron Miller, Cameron Miller, and Skala Leake received an Honorable Mention for
Students from Ballard's Digital Filmmaking Program won three of the six honors given by the competition. The other schools winning honors were the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, and Perth Modern School in Australia. This is the fifth year in a row that Ballard's film students have been among the winners.

DON'T MISS NEW SHORTS FROM BALLARD'S AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKERS!
Everyone is invited to a screening of new work by students in the Ballard High School Digital Filmmaking Program. The Ballard Film Festival (BFF) will be on Saturday, June 3 in the Ballard High School auditorium. The screening will feature short comedies and dramas, news features, advertisements, and the documentaries students produced for IMAX. Tickets ($10 for adults and $5 for students) will be sold at the door.
Films that first premiere at the BFF routinely win honors from prestigious national and international film festivals, the National YoungArts Foundation and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

WIND ENSEMBLE IS IN NEW YORK CITY!
The Wind Ensemble left on a red-eye flight for New York City on Friday the 7th. They perform in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium on Tuesday the 11th. An action-packed itinerary, including the "New York International Music Festival", "Aladdin" on Broadway, and a performance in Central Park will keep them on the go. is Oscar Wilde's funniest work and the Ballard Playmakers will present this Victorian-era farce May 11-13 and 18-20 at 7:30pm. Wilde pokes fun at Victorian-era social norms while misunderstandings and mistaken identity wreak havoc on our young characters who are in pursuit of true love. Ballard cheerleading tryouts are right around the corner! You can pick up your tryout packet in the Main Office or download online. Be sure have it turned in and checked off by Kim Nickerson in the Ballard Main Office by Friday, April 21st.
Safe Place is a program that quickly connects
runaway and homeless youth ages 12-17 to services, either by reuniting them with their family or providing them with emergency shelter. What is Senior SPREE?
Senior SPREE has been a Ballard High School tradition for many years - it is an all-night party hosted by Grad Nights and chaperoned by BHS parents and staff. Past venues include the Family Fun Center, the Pacific Science Center, and Rainforest Café. Past activities include, bowling, video games, sumo wrestling, henna artists, DJ's, a hypnotist and LOTS and LOTS of FOOD!!
