How Not to Pay Tribute to Veterans.
By Borre Winckel, President & CEO
It was shameful and outrageous. It redefined the depths of moral depravity and it happened right after Veteran's Day. A new low blow was dealt to common decency, when the City of Poway voted 3-2 to kill a 22-unit for sale townhome housing project for veterans.
Local housing opponents came out in droves to protect their life style. They did so by denying those, who had served to protect that very life style, a shot at the same.
It can't get any more disturbing.
The veteran's project was proposed by Habitat for Humanity on a 2-acre site already earmarked for affordable housing. City Staff, which recommended approval, presented that the project met all of Poway's requirements.

Called "Housing You Matters," the organization has raised tens of thousands of dollars to hire a staff and map out an ambitious agenda for 2017.

Report: SoCal to build more housing in '17
By Philip Molinar, San Diego Union Tribune
San Diego County homeowners saw some of the biggest home value increases in Southern California in the last year, while landlords benefited from some of the lowest rental vacancy rates in the region, said a detailed industry report released Sunday.
While high demand for housing propelled prices higher, industry leaders expect more construction of residential units in 2017 than this year, said the third quarter report from the nonprofit Real Estate Research Council of Southern California.
Forecasts for Southern California predict an average 12.3 percent increase in residential permits next year across all seven counties.
