Sometimes the insane environmental requirements our industry face are best explained with real life examples of regulatory overreach turned on its head.
On May 18, 2016, the State of Oregon (it might as well be California's) Department of Fish and Wildlife sends a letter to a landowner asking for permission to access a creek on their property to document the decline in a certain species of unheard of frogs. The property owners response in the second letter is epic. It illustrates what our industry goes through to meet the often insane and (consequently) high cost requirements for species preservation on their property,
if any are even there!

Community Plan Updates Head to the Finish Line
By Matt Adams
The City of San Diego Planning Commission gave the green light to a pair of community plan updates paving the way for a city council decision involving density increases along transportation corridors. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the North Park and Golden Hill plans in a day-long session at city hall. Both plans call for modest upticks in housing and place a greater emphasis on ways to get around town via mass transit and bikes. Some transit advocates argued the plan didn't go far enough to discourage automobile use as prescribed under the City's Climate Action Plan. A recent city analysis reached a similar conclusion although city officials counter that the CAP is meant as a city-wide program. The Commission also nixed a proposal to establish 'Potential Historic Districts', that would subject large swaths of the community to historic designation review and requirements that would circumvent the city's standard designation process. Both plans are scheduled for an October hearing before the San Diego City Council.
