Election Heads Down Final Stretch
|
By Matt Adams
The November 8th General Election is one week away where voters will decide on a host of candidates and issues from San Diego to Sacramento. Locally, the 3rd District Board of Supervisors is a hotly contested seat between incumbent Dave Roberts and challenger Kristin Gaspar. The Encinitas Mayor looks to unseat the first term supervisor and has garnered support from Mayor Kevin Faulconer and others. The 9th District on the San Diego City Council is up for grabs as Ricardo Flores, Chief of Staff to Councilmember Marti Emerald vies for the seat against Health Advocate, Georgette Gomez for the chance to represent the district that runs from Kensington to Southcrest.

BIA Loses Another Long-Time Member
Marvin Hoiseth
|
It is with great sadness to inform you that Marvin Hoiseth passed away last Friday, October 28th due to an aggressive and fast moving tumor in his brain. As President of Home Builders Marketing Services, Marvin was instrumental in the marketing and sales of over 10,000 new homes and condominiums across California. A BIA member for over 30 years he was widely known and loved for his passion of sales, his contagious smile and the difference he made to those around him.
In 2009 Marvin teamed up with his son Mark, a 23 year real estate professional to continue running HBMS so he could play more golf and travel the world. Marvin never made meetings on Thursdays as that was "golf day." Mark will continue running HBMS and serving their builder clients.
A Celebration of Life service will be held this Thursday. For those that wish to attend please register for the
Evite.

The San Diego City Council will vote on the Uptown Community plan on Monday, November 14th at City Hall. The community plan update has been in the works for nearly 10 years and is still the center of controversy between planning group members who seek a downzone and, community activists who look to increase the number of housing opportunities in the midst of a major housing shortage. Thus far Uptown stands alone in its pursuit of a downzone as other communities including North Park, Grantville and San Ysidro increased housing as part of their plan updates. The planning commission rejected the city's proposal to cut 2,000 units and instead voted to keep existing densities and eliminate the height limits in the area that have restricted development.
