BPA Booster Meeting Tuesday!
January 10th at 7:30 PM in the BHS Library

Welcome Back! We  hope you all had an enjoyable and rejuvenating Winter Break.  Please join us for our first BPA General Booster meeting of 2017 - next Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the BHS Library.  Come and hear about the Spaghetti Dinner and the Les Misérables Opening Weekend Gala. Music c lass photo proofs will be available for viewing and ordering at the meeting.  Photos are $10 each - cash or checks made payable to Rowland Studios. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!   

Band News  
Jazz Band Clinic:  Today, January 5th from 4:00 -8:00 PM

Justin DiCioccio, of the Manhattan School of Music, will be in Seattle this week to work with Jazz Band 1 as they prepare their music for the Essentially Ellington competition. All Jazz Band students are required to attend this clinic to either perform (Jazz 1) or to watch (Jazz 2). Dinner will be provided for both bands at approximately 6:00 PM.

Pep Band at Varsity Basketball Games Tomorrow basketball_wood_floor.jpg
The band will play at the BHS vs. Bainbridge varsity basketball games tomorrow, Friday, January 6. Call time is 6:30 PM and students must wear their Band T-shirts. The complete Pep Band at Basketball Game Schedule is available  here.

Jazz Band 1:  UW Jazz Festival, Saturday, January 28th all day - Drivers Needed!
Depending on the number of seats in parents' cars we will need up to 6 parent drivers for this event.  All volunteer paperwork must be completed and processed before the trip.  Anyone with paperwork on file will need to fill out the driving form for this trip.  Please contact Ingrid Riley if you can drive for this event.

Solo and Ensemble 2017
Due Date for Entry Forms is tomorrow January 6th

Registration for the 2017 WMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival closes on Friday, January 6th.  All students wishing to participate must fill out the attached solo form and/or ensemble form and return them before January 6th, 2017. For students entering as soloists, please submit the fee of $18 to the black mailbox. Checks can be made out to "Ballard Performing Arts."

The contest is on Saturday, Feb. 4 th , 2017 at Seattle Pacific University, and times will be announced approximately a week prior to the festival.  If you know you have a schedule conflict with one part of the contest day, you can request to perform in the AM or PM, but that information must be communicated to your director prior to Jan. 6th. The contest will end prior to the Spaghtetti Dinner later that evening.

Recordings Available
Winter Concert music file s are  online Inside each Band, Choir or Orchestra folder are folders with each group's songs and each Mozart's Requiem in both WAV and MP3 formats. Use WAV files to burn CDs, MP3s to download to iPods and similar devices.  MP3s will show up in alphabetical order, but they have track numbers embedded in them, and should sort themselves into performance order once they're in iTunes or some similar program.

Please respect the composers' copyright and do not share with anyone outside of your ensemble except for the Requiem. Mozart's copyright has expired.

Fill the Goodwill Truck!
Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 12:00 - 4:00 PM

The Goodwill truck will be at the Ballard HS parking lot on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 12:00 - 4:00 PM.  Please set aside your items for donations until then. Ballard Performing Arts will receive a donation of at least $500 from Goodwill. They will accept small furniture (no large furniture please), electronics, used cell phones, clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen items, etc. 

Orchestra News
NW Orchestra Festival Information

Symphonic & Chamber Orchestra's half payment of $200 for the Portland trip & NW Orchestra Festival is due Tuesday, January 24th, 2017. If you'd like to deduct an amount from your student account, please submit a note with your remaining payment, or just a note, to the black mailbox with your name and how much you'd like to use from your student account. If you have been approved for a scholarship, that amount will be deducted from the second and final payment. 

Call for chaperones!  We are looking for 2 females and 1 male chaperone for the Portland trip from Friday, March 10th - Sunday, March 12th 2017.  The tour will include an open rehearsal with Oregon Symphony, clinic with Portland State University faculty, NW Orchestra Festival all day on Saturday, performance at the Grotto on Sunday, and many enjoyable moments in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Chaperones are subsidized and will pay half of the total cost, estimated $200. Please contact Sylvia Schweinberger if you would like to chaperone this trip.

58th Annual  Spaghetti Dinner 
Saturday, February 4th from 5:30 - 8:30 PM

Save the date for our 58th Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser featuring performances by all of our music groups. It is a perfect event to share the Performing Arts with family, friends, and neighbors.  Enjoy a full dinner of spaghetti with fabulous homemade sauce (meat & vegetarian options), salad, bread, beverage & ice cream. Cast Member Information
All cast members must return the parent information/volunteer sheet and their bio forms. Les Misérables T-shirts are available for $10 - checks payable to BHS Performing Arts. Work  Call Saturdays begin on Saturday, January 7th from 10:00 - 4:00 PM - Students only!

Bring Your Concert Attire Home!
By Friday, January 6th

Concert Clothes that did not make it home after the Winter Concerts are being held in storage. There is a $5.00 storage and retrieval fee.  Please see your teacher or Jill Hansen to pick up your clothes.

Please turn in the money you owe for the candy you checked out immediately.  Be sure your name is on the envelope when you drop it in the band room mailbox!
