BREAKING NEWS! Major Change to Massachusetts Dental Assistant Licensing Requirements
RDH Temps - Flexibility in Dental Staffing
Massachusetts Dental Assistant Licensing Simplified

March 2, 2016

Previously there was a requirement that dental assistants who were MA State Seal on-the-job trained or who could not provide proof of completion of an accredited dental assisting program needed to show they were employed by a currently licensed Massachusetts dentist for initial licensing and renewal. The requirement of a letter from a supervising dentist to obtain or renew an OJT dental assistant license is no longer necessary.

If you have been unable to procure proof of employment but satisfy the other requirements for licensure, including CPR, your CDC Guidelines course and proof of radiology certification (if you will be taking radiographs), you are now eligible for a dental assisting license! Get started at http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/gov/departments/dph/programs/hcq/dhpl/dentist/licensing/

This change is largely the result of RDH Temps, Inc.'s advocacy on behalf of dental assistants who, for various reasons, were unable to fulfill the supervision requirement. We are very appreciative to the Board of Registration in Dentistry for acting swiftly to remove this barrier to licensing for otherwise qualified dental assistants.
