MRFD JOINS
THE COPPER CANYON FIRE & MEDICAL AUTHORITY

What is the "Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority"? Well it's the same firefighters, same trucks, same Fire Chief and the same fire station with a new name on the shirts and on the trucks that we'll have to get used to. See below for more info or talk to a Fire Board Member.

At a special meeting held at the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Station on Wednesday May 18th the Boards of the Montezuma Rimrock and Camp Verde Fire Districts voted to enter into a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) Agreement between the two districts. This action creates a separate legal entity to be known as Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority.

From R to L, Robin Cook Administrative Manager, Legal Counsel, Chief Terry Keller and the combined MRFD & CVFD Boards.  Ron Melcher is observing at the bottom left.

This action was taken by the two Fire Districts to provide enhanced services, increase operating efficiency and reduce operating costs of both Districts.

While both the Montezuma Rimrock and Camp Verde Fire Districts will continue to maintain their individual elected boards, taxing authorities, duties and responsibilities required under State law, all the resources and personnel of the two Fire Districts will become part of the Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority.

The governing body of the Fire Authority will consist of five members appointed from the elected membership of the two existing Fire District Boards. Each Board will appoint two Directors to the Fire Authority.  The fifth member of the Fire Authority will be selected from among the remaining elected members of the two boards by the initial four (4) Directors of the Fire Authority.

The initial Directors of the Fire Authority will be the Chair and Secretary of the two (2) District Boards, Carol Keeton and Robbie Satran from Montezuma Rimrock Fire District with George Kleindienst and Dave Curtis representing the Camp Verde Fire District. The fifth Director will be selected by the Fire Authority Governing Board at a special meeting at the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Station at 8AM Friday May 20th.

The Lake Montezuma Property Owners Association (LMPOA) has maintained throughout the process that whatever the configuration of the MRFD, free ambulance transport to the ER must continue to be provided for residents of the district without insurance and for the amount paid by the insurer for those with insurance.  No billing for the balance owed!  Please give a standing ovation to MRFD Chair Carol Keeton for ensuring that this service continues for district residents!
