Grief Recovery Support Group
Begins This Sunday, October 8, 6:00-7:30pm, Fireside Room
The death of a loved one can be very difficult, and sometimes our grief can last a long time. MIPC is offering a grief support group this fall.   The group will meet for seven weeks beginning Sunday, October 8 through November 19, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  We will begin each session by sharing a simple soup supper provided by our Caring Ministries. Einer Handeland and Marla Briggs will facilitate.  For more information and to sign up, please call Marla at 206.232.5595 ext. 1007 or email: [email protected], or you can register here
Upcoming Memorial Services
The memorial service for Marian Manzari will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 14, in the Fireside Room.

The memorial service for Hugo Oswald will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 21, in the Sanctuary.
Tables of 8
This is a great opportunity to get to know your church family better. Sign up, and you will be placed into groups of eight persons who will get together once a month for three months (November/December, January, February). The emphasis is on fun and fellowship! Find out more and sign up here.

Or if someone would prefer to bring a fully prepared and ready to serve dish, please email [email protected] that they can have a dish in the church kitchen refrigerator before 10:30am on October 15th.
We appreciate any help you can give. Thank you,

Did you know that MIPC has a relationship with The Village of Hope?  It is rooted in an African/African-American experience, and welcomes all people who are in the struggle to end racism and usher in justice.  If you'd like to get involved, talk to Glo Ceteznik or Anne Corley.  You can get more information at their website
Fall Adult Education
Growing In Faith Class
Sunday mornings at 9:15am in the Adult A-B Classroom
John Olson leads a 5-part study of Genesis 3 and Romans 5-8. Segment topics will include: Rebellion, Grace and Peace, New Life, Daily Struggle, and Reassurance.

This Sunday, October 8, will be the last of John's series. Below is a description of the new class starting October 15:

The Questions Jesus Asked, October 15 - November 19
Are you aware that Pastor Kristy's sermons this fall have been on the questions of Jesus?  Why would Jesus ask more than 300 questions in the gospels?  Shouldn't the reasons for his using so many questions be explored so that we better understand how he used them to teach so effectively?  Shouldn't we also look at particular questions that he asked in some detail?  Might it be true that he is really asking us some of the same questions right now?  Led by Carl and Halie Dodrill.

E.L.L. Class
Sunday mornings at 9:15am in the Blue Room
Class for English Language Learners. Reflections on the Scriptures used in worship, and sharing of life experiences. Led by Rev. Dr. Rita-Lou Clarke.

Women's Monday Morning Bible Study
Mondays from 10 - 11:30am in the Fireside Room
The fall study relates to "Lectio Divina," a study of the scripture that brings the verses into ordinary life. We look at the background of Lectio Divina and practice the method with passages each Monday morning. Facilitator: Halie Dodrill (206) 236-0067 or [email protected].

Wednesday Morning Acts Bible Study
Wednesdays from 11am - noon in the Fireside Room
This is a drop-in Bible study, no preparation is needed. We will continue until we complete the book of Acts. The study continues with Acts 20 when we gather again on October 11. All are welcome, even if you have never come before! Led by Kristy Farber and Ben McConaughy.

Upcoming Activities & Events

A Monastery Experience
October 19, 9:15am - 3:15pm
St. Mary's on the Lake
1663 Killarney Way, Bellevue

The fall schedule is under way keeping our lives busy with little time to pause and rest. In Mark 6:31, Jesus says to the disciples, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest awhile". Right across the lake in Bellevue is such a place to go and be refreshed.
St. Mary's on the Lake offers you a private room for the day. You can explore the beautiful grounds, walk the labyrinth, read, or nap and have lunch with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. The day is yours for $40. Contact Margaret Redman at [email protected] for more information. All are welcome but space is limited.
Experience The Faiths of Our Neighbors
Diwali - Festival of Lights

Diwali is an annual Hindu and Sikh Festival of Lights - a very popular and joyful holiday. The Sikh Centre of Seattle in Bothell invites all members of Mercer Island Presbyterian Church to celebrate Diwali with them on October 19th. A member of the Gurudwara will meet us and act as a guide for us through the event. Please note: The Gurudwara is a place of worship. Smoking and/or alcohol & drug comsumption is strictly prohibited in the Gurudwara premises.  While inside the Gurudwara, all guests are expected to respect and follow the basic rules: 1. Remove your shoes; 2. Wash you hands with soap and water; 3. Cover your head with a scarf.

MIPC Concert Series

MIPC Children's Choir
Children are invited to join the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Choir! Rehearsals are on Sundays through April 1, from 4:00 - 4:50 pm in the choir room. Led by our organist, William Bryant.
Open registration, please contact Kim Jewett at [email protected].
Unknowing and Known
During September and October, MIPC is showing the work of artist Brad Namie in the courtyard. Brad's art represents the convergence of significant dreams, life events, and influences from devotional literature. Unknowing and Known explores aspects of being known by our Creator and knowing God as revealed in Jesus Christ. And yet, while knowing, we come in contact with the infinite, eternal One who extends beyond our finite senses. The artist invites you into his personal search for a deeper knowing.
 Rummage Sale News
Never too soon to be thinking about the Rummage Sale (May 11-12). For our organization purposes, the Rummage Sale team needs large clear plastic bins and portable shelving. Please take to the Youth Office hallway. Sorry, no other donations at this time!
Tuesday Morning Men's Bible Study
We meet on Tuesdays at 7:00am in the Fireside Room. Please contact Brian Emanuels for more information, [email protected] .
Sanctuary Flowers
Please consider offering a floral arrangement to honor a special occasion or just because you love what flowers do for our spirits. Sign up in the narthex or contact [email protected] and she will help you make it happen.
