Greetings!
The season is upon us, and this email will serve to give you some basic information on the season, as well as address some concerns and issues regarding team assignments, etc. If you have any questions, please email info@bsyf.org. That is the only contact for BSYF.
Rules
BSYF is an instructional league whose goal is to allow ALL players to learn and grow as football players. As such, our rules are structured in a way that allows players to learn without being physically outmatched by scheme, or double teamed. For those of you who have played football, some of the rules may seem simplified too much, but our rules make sure that players learn fundamentals of the game such as blocking and tackling, rather than relying on tricks and deception. As players grow and advance in the game, they will gain more knowledge of advanced techniques, but we view it as our job to teach the basics, and to help players master them. Our approach is that you have to be able to walk before you can run. BSYF Game Rules
Playing Time Policy
To go along with the rules, BSYF requires that all players start on either offense or on defense, and that they also play on either kickoff or kickoff return team as well. No substitutions are to be made on the first series of either half, which will ensure that every player plays at least one complete series. It is the expectation of the Board of BSYF that every player play at least half of each game. Coaches are instructed as to this policy, and are expected to follow it without exception. As parents, we need your assistance with this. If you feel that your player is not getting the appropriate amount of playing time, please find someone from BSYF as soon as possible so that we can investigate. We cannot do this if you wait until after the fact to ask. Your son's participation is the number one thing. A player cannot get better if they are not practicing and playing in games.
Practices
Teams are allowed to practice four times per week up until the first football game. During this time, teams may practice on Fridays as long as practice is completed by 6:30 so that players may attend the varsity football game. After that point, teams may only practice three times per week, Monday through Thursday.
Current Team Placements
Parents in the 5th and 6th Grade Division, can disregard this section, as it will address issues we are having with numbers in the lower division
In years past, BSYF has been able to offer a division soley for players who are in their first year of participation. It is our desire to that again this season. However, up to this point, our number of signups in these age groups have not been sufficient to allow us to do so. Playing with a division of second through fourth graders is not our desire. With a few recent last minute sign ups, we are nearing the ability to be able to split these groups as we would like. In order to do so, it is going to require the cooperation and understanding of the parents and the coaches for this age group. We will be asking every parent to take their player to practice tomorrow night with the teams that they have been assigned to. We will take the next two days to evaluate our ability to change things before things get too far along. We are asking the coaches involved to work with the kids on conditioning and fundamentals, rather than installing offenses or defenses for the first two practices. This will allow us time to attempt to reconfigure the divisions into the desired three division format. There will be plenty of practice time after a change to allow coaches to get everything done that they need to as far as offense and defense. Thanks to all of you in advance for your understanding and patience here. If any of you know of a player who has not signed up, but would like to play, please have them contact info@bsyf.org as soon as possible.

Barry Stokes
Many times people ask about the relationship and role of Barry Stokes with BSYF. To clarify, by his request, Barry Stokes has no input or role in decisionmaking with BSYF, nor does Barry provide any financial support to the league. The league was named after Barry to honor his accomplishments in the NFL. Barry occasionally attends games or practices when available, but does not have any official role with BSYF. |
