A Win for South-western Alberta
Friday, Nov 24, 2017

Today Westjet announced WestJet Link, a new regional air service operating under a capacity purchase agreement with Pacific Coastal Airlines.

WestjJet Link will connect the communities of Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, Cranbrook and Prince George to WestJet's expanding network hub at the Calgary Interational Airport.

This is fantastic news for our region as having more than one carrier providing service to our regional airport will provide locals with more travel options and the competition will hopefully drive prices towards affordability.

In an interview with Lethbridge News Now, Lethbridge County Reeve, Lorne Hickey, stated that:

“The daily flights to Calgary will provide additional and convenient access for business and leisure travellers, further solidifying the Airport as a thriving air service centre. Calgary is a hub for travel around the globe, and with flights to and from the Lethbridge Airport this service will provide Southern Alberta yet another opportunity to access a gateway to the world."

In an online comment, Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman encouraged the community to 'make it work' by making greater use of the local airport once the service arrives. More traffic through our local airport will only drive greater service options and encourage future expansions.

The Chamber would like to congratulate and thank all those community ambassadors who have worked so hard to put Lethbridge on the map and help large companies like WestJet see the potential of our region. Well done.
