The 2017 Annual Mayor's Luncheon


Close to 800 people gathered to have lunch with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.
This event broke records as it was the highest attended Vaughan Chamber event to date! 

You could have heard a pin drop as the Vaughan Mayor addressed the business community on Wednesday, February 22nd at our Annual Mayor's Luncheon, sponsored by Fazzari + Partners LLP. As our city grows, our chamber grows right alongside, making for a strong, bold, and vibrant business community. 

A very special announcement was made at this event - the Philanthropic Business Person of the Year went to Anna and Nick De Luca of De Luca Plumbing for all their work with Nicky's Dream Foundation. We're looking forward to presenting the De Luca's with their award at our Business Achievement Awards come April!

Women to Women Symposium Keynote Speaker Announced 
Canadian Filmmaker and Academy Award Nominee, Deepa Mehta



The Vaughan Chamber Women's Committee is excited to announce the 2017 Women to Women Symposium Keynote Speaker, Deepa Mehta, Canadian Filmmaker and Academy Award Nominee. 

Deepa Mehta is an Oscar-nominated (Water), transnational filmmaker whose work is celebrated on an international scale. Her emotionally resonating, award-winning films have played every major film festival, and many remain audience favourites.  She is best known for her Elemental Trilogy: Earth, Fire, Water. Other films include Bollywood/Hollywood, Heaven on Earth, and the epic adaptation of Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie's three-time Booker Prize winning novel. Her work challenges traditions and stereotypes and is always daring, fearless...provocative. Mehta is both a rebel and a humanist, and that spirit saturates her newest work, Beeba Boys, a tough, stylish gangster film.

The ease of mobility to and from Vaughan helped draw in MacKay, who runs  Mactrans Logistics, a third-party transportation logistics services company. Plenty of other businesses have likewise flocked to Vaughan for its proximity to major highways, rail systems, and Toronto Pearson International Airport, the country's busiest. "A lot of our customers and suppliers are here," says MacKay, whose clients include corporate giants such as Magna International, Grand & Toy, and Weber Grills. "It's good for business to be able to meet with them easily, and have them come to our location."
