GenCyber Camp  Directors Bring the NSA Day of Cyber to Students and Teachers across the Country
Augusta University GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher Camp
Kendra Sue Finch, a Technology Integration and Innovation Coordinator at West Minister Schools of Augusta, led the GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher camp at Augusta University.

Kendra found a very creative way to incorporate the NSA Day of Cyber into her GenCyber Middle Grades Teacher camp. "I felt it would be important for ALL of the teachers who attended the camp to be able to introduce their students to the amazing opportunities in the field of cybersecurity that they could pursue in their future," commented Kendra.

"I needed my teachers to break into 5 groups of 6 teachers each. Instead of just putting them in groups, I decided to make my grouping strategy reflect the Day of Cyber content. Each teacher was given a "Top Secret and Confidential" letter. Each letter explained that the teacher had been selected to begin training to become one of the following jobs:
  • Vulnerability Analyst
  • Crypto Analyst
  • Exploitation Analyst
  • Capability Development Specialist
  • Cyber Research Specialist

The University of West Florida Center for Cybersecurity hosted two combination GenCyber camps for high school students and grade school teachers in July. The UWF Center for Cybersecurity staff incorporated the NSA Day of Cyber, Basic Cyber Challenges, the NSA Weekly Crytogram Challenge and the GenCyber First 10 Principles into the camp curriculum.

West Florida High School junior Malcolm Pressley said Day of Cyber "is definitely worth checking out." Pressley particularly enjoyed the video that allowed him to experience a day in the life of six National Security Agency professionals. He said his profile matched with those of a director and computer network operator, and the Day of Cyber program further convinced him that he possesses the skillset for a career in cybersecurity. Gulf Breeze High School freshman Foster Ware said the video opened his eyes to all of the possible careers at NSA.

During the week, learners of all ages, educators, parents, employers and the community will participate in a national recognition of how cybersecurity plays a vital role in the lives of Americans and how building a national cybersecurity workforce enhances America's national security and promotes economic prosperity.
