What to eat before yoga
Digestion is an important part of yoga. Eat too close to class time and you might have stomach cramps. Don't eat at all and you might not make it through that last warrior 3 transition. Here are some healthy reminders of when and what to eat prior to class:
Eat a small meal at least one hour before your practice. Avoid anything too heavy or spicy, and try to keep it low in sugar.
Avocados and bananas are easy to digest and filling, packed with potassium and magnesium.
High in fiber and vitamin C, apples are a great pre-workout snack that keep you hydrated and offers an energy boost.
Full of vitamins and antioxidants, the natural sugars in berries will keep you energized.
Smoothies are a fan favorite and ideal to lift you out of a mundane snack cycle. Made with a variety of protein bases-- yogurt, almond milk, tofu, etc.-- you can add a number of fruits and vegetables and never have the same flavor twice. Both filling and tasty, smoothies provide adequate nutrition and
hydration to make it through a workout. Make sure to have plenty of time between a smoothie and class though, or you might have a stomachache.
Almonds contain vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy fats that provide a fantastic energy boost prior to a fitness class.
Dried fruit and nut bars can be filling and flavorful; the perfect snack for a commute from work to the studio. Keep an eye on artificial ingredients, though, as you don't want to feel bloated or thirsty before an
intense workout.
It might take awhile to find your preferred pre-workout snack. Good luck!

The Fire Within Yoga wants to help expand your mind as well as strengthen your body. We are excited to start a Mind and Body Wellness library, where you can donate and borrow your favorite healthy living books.
To help get our library started, we’ve partnered with Buffalo Books and are happy to offer 10% off any book you purchase in the mind/body wellness department. Just show your Wellness Book Club card when you make your purchase, and donate to us after you’ve enjoyed your new book. Have a great book you’d like to share already? Bring it in on your next visit and take one from our current library to read.
Bookmarks are also available for you to leave your name, as well as a favorite excerpt or note, if you choose. We've created a sign out sheet so we can keep track of books, just in case some of our favorites start a "waiting list."
A special thanks for

Personal Mantra ~ Life doesn't get easier, you just get stronger!
I have been practicing yoga for 14 years. During that time I have experienced so many positive benefits, but most of all it just makes me feel good! I am a very active person and with all of the exercise I do with CrossFit and triathlon training, I have found yoga to be an excellent compliment for keeping my body aligned and ready to compete. The relaxation that is achieved through a regular yoga practice is an extra plus! These benefits inspired me to pursue teaching in 2007, when I received my Yoga Teacher Certification. Since then, I have taught for a duration of 3 years. I have always been captivated by the choreographed sequences, fun music, movement, invigorating workouts, stress management and overall sense of wellness and community. My favorite pose is crow, and I'm working on perfecting 8 limb pose.
In June I started teaching Kids Yoga. I love working with kids and think it is so important for them to be active and able to experience the calming effects that yoga has to offer. I also believe nutrition is equally as important as exercise, which is why I use JuicePlus products on a daily basis. If you are looking to make a small healthy change to your diet by adding extra fruits, veggies and phytonutrients to your diet, check out my JuicePlus website!
I hope to share my love of yoga with others so they can experience all of the positive effects that it has to offer! I look forward to connecting with others on and off the mat
Visit "tall" Amy during mixed level yoga on Wednesday nights from 7-8 or when bringing your children to kids yoga on Wednesdays from 6-7.
