Celebrating 13 years!

This August marks the 13th year that we have been providing chiropractic care and have been helping patients make healthy  lifestyle  choices. We are so happy that you our patient chose us. This wouldn't be possible with out the faith that you put into us with providing care for you.

It's that time again, school has arrived. There are many tips and some advice that we can provide to help your child succeed at a healthy lifestyle during the hectic school year.
School can be stressful for many children and even parents. Maintaining a healthy body with regular adjustments can help manage your stress levels. There are 3 different types of stress that our bodies can endure: chemical, emotional and physical. Stress can exacerbate current pain and make your condition worse.
Chronic stress also leads to nerve irritation. The adjustments of a chiropractor release muscle tension, and that helps the body return to a more balanced, relaxed state. Adjustments also reduce spinal nerve irritation, and improve blood circulation. These changes may be enough, in many cases, to convince the brain to turn off the fight or flight stress response, beginning the process of healing. A healthy and balanced spine is one key to effectively managing stress. If we
can't eliminate stress we might as well do our best to manage it.
Footwear: Skimpy footwear and platform shoes may be fashionable, but they are certainly not what your spine needs! Shoes that cannot provide adequate support can throw your whole bone structure out of alignment. If the foot is excessively pronating (rolling in), this will cause torsion at the knee when walking, running, or standing. This will then cause a shift in body weight into the pelvis, causing hip and low back problems. It can also lead up the whole entire chain causing the shoulders to not be level and to tilt.
Therefore correct footwear from an early age is very important.
Here are a few tips to remember when buying new school shoes
  • Make sure there is plenty of wiggle room in the toe box;
  • Never buy a shoe for your child to grow into;
  • Avoid hand-me-down shoes if at all possible;
  • Check the length of the foot, from the longest toe. Caution: this is not always the big toe, as 10% of the population has the second toe as the longest;
  • Make sure the shoe bends in the toe box;
  • Check the heel counter and make sure the shoe is supportive around the heel as this controls the foot, and help pronation.
Breakfast is an important part of your child's success in school. Eating a healthy breakfast makes your child more energetic, alert and ready to learn.
A balanced breakfast consists of complex carbohydrates, protein and fat. The reason these are important is because this prevents your child's blood sugar rate from decreasing for several hours until they get to their lunch time.
Some tips and ideas for a healthy breakfast
  • Use steel cut oats for oatmeal instead of instant
  • Try a yogurt parfait with fruit granola and nuts
  • Snack on apples and almond butter
  • Also snack on peanut butter & banana wraps

***Now that sports are starting back up please remember the importance of warming up before playing. Take at least 15-20 minutes warm up. ***

     My 3 children and I began Chiropractic care for the purpose of overall increased bodily function.  I was at my whit's end with my overall health: in particular, muscle tension, lower back pain and low immune system - i.e. always being sick.  Meanwhile, one of my children has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was in constant pain and her medications are immunosuppressants - leaving her at risk for getting sick.  Immediately after meeting Dr. Troy, we all felt at home in his office. We appreciated his empathy, knowledge, passion and desire to help.  The greatest change in my children is their overall health and ability to fight illness. I feel that chiropractic care has definitely boosted their immune systems.  Monthly visits to Dr. Troy have become a way of life for us and the fact that no child missed a day of school last year due to illness is attributed to Dr. Troy's chiropractic care.  Basically, my children and I have learned that chiropractic care helps place our bodies in a position where it can naturally heal itself.  I was referred to this office by Meara Scantland.  The atmosphere of Advanced Wellness is professional and friendly because of the helpful and accommodating office staff.
