Snap Fundraiser now until April 10th:  Jazz I needs your help! They will be traveling to New York in early May to represent Ballard High School at Essentially Ellington ! They were one of 15 groups selected from many hundreds of entries to participate in this prestigious event!

We are doing several fundraisers to help provide scholarships for the group. The first is a  SNAP fundraiser. Please consider making a donation to help them get to New York! OR if you wish to donate directly please contact Mr.James.

EBMEA Choir Festival:  Next Thursday, March 29th, Treble Choir, Advanced Chorale, and Concert Choir will travel to Ingraham High School for our annual Elliott Bay Choir Festival. This event is our large group assessment and adjudication, so it's important that all students attend. We will leave from BHS at  9:30am  and return to BHS around  4:30 pm. 

Students should wear formal concert attire and bring a sack lunch. See the schedule here.

Elliott Bay Choir Festival Chaperones: We are looking for chaperones for the Elliott Bay Choir Festival on Thursday, March 29th at Ingraham High. 

Concert & Advanced Choirs SoCal Trip Final Payment PAST DUE: The final Los Angeles payment of $425 is now past due. You can send in a check made payable to Ballard Performing Arts or pay online with a credit card with a service fee HERE.

Mandatory Los Angeles Choir Trip Meeting7:30 pm on Tuesday, April 3rd  in the PAC. This is a required meeting for students and families attending the trip. The travel agent will be there to pass our itineraries and give important information. This will come at the end of our Booster Meeting. 

Northwest Regional Choir Concert: Ballard choirs host regional middle-school and elementary bands for a combined concert every year. April 4th, we need adult helpers to sell concessions and donate baked goods. Please sign up HERE.
WWU Orchestra Festival Wrap Up: A h eartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful parent chaperones, including Carrie Dixon, Jennifer Fanning, Jon Hyde, Ed Hahne and Sylvia Schweinberger. Our students worked with Jonathan Girard of UBC, and John Freisen from WWU.  Both  Symphonic Orchestra and Fiddle Ensemble earned superior Gold Awards for their performances, and Fiddle Ensemble also won 1st place in their division! Congratulations to all Orchestra students on their stellar representation of Ballard at WWU last Saturday.

Concerto Auditions - Wednesday, April 4th Sign up on the bulletin board outside the music office starting  Monday, March 26th  for an audition time after school on  Wednesday April 4th . Prepare one movement of a standard concerto, memorization and accompaniment accepted but not required. Students will be judged on correct notes, rhythms, intonation, articulation, tone and musicality. Winners will perform their concerto with full orchestra on  Thursday, May 24th  at the Spring Orchestra Concert at  7:30 pm.  

Chamber Audition Materials are posted on Schoology - Auditions for Symphonic Orchestra members will be on  June 4th and 5th during 2nd period. The auditions will consist of three parts, as indicated below:
  1. Play one major and one minor scale of your choice. Two or three octaves according to ability.
  2. Perform an excerpt from a solo composition, no longer than two minutes in length. Memorizing not required. Choose an excerpt that best shows your technical and musical abilities. 
  3. Sight-reading appropriate for your level will be required, and provided for you when you arrive for your audition. 


Whistler Paperwork Due and Mandatory Meeting Notice: Permission slips and student identification* are due on Monday, April 2nd! These items may be turned in to the secure black mailbox in the band room.
*Mandatory meeting for parents and students following the BPA General Meeting on Tuesday, April 3rd in the library. We will discuss the itinerary, introduce the chaperones and answer questions.
Reminder: Chaperones and students age 18 or older will need a passport, or passport card, to enter Canada via bus. Students ages 17 or under need an original or certified copy of their birth certificate and photo ID, or a passport/passport card if available. All passports must be valid for at least six months after our travel date.

Important Essentially Ellington Update for Jazz Families: Planning for Essentially Ellington is well underway! Click here  for the initial travel itinerary and payment information. More detailed information will follow closer to the departure date.

Please note the $500 deposit for both students and chaperones is due on Friday, March 30th.  Families may pay via check made out to BPA, or online  here for a small service fee.
