Dear Ms. Elizabeth,
I would love your advice... my daughter is fighting me about going to ballet ( as you have seen. ) she's a strong willed lady and I can't force that 4 yr old to do anything! I want her to love ballet and not have it be a power struggle, so what have you seen that has worked for other families? If they keep coming does the child just start getting into it? Or is it best to take a break and come back to it. She knows the songs that you sing and  sings them around the house happily, so like you said she is absorbing the information.

I understand how it is from my own kids!
I know she has so many of the steps and songs, but some days prefers to watch.
My son does this with gymnastics sometimes - and I know how you feel.  I try to tell him if it's something he really enjoys and good at, I want him to do his best and if I take him there, I want him to participate. His coach tells him to be good at anything, sometimes you go on days you don't feel like it.  It's hard but you feel better to overcome. The fact that his coach and I tell him the same thing, does help.

If you bring her, I will encourage her to join so she respects all your efforts to get her to the class and should be rewarded for joining and doing her best. I also remember when I just had my son, my daughter was especially glued to me for the extra attention even on things I knew she could certainly handle independently. It drove me nuts, but that phase did pass!

Hope to see you all in the studio!

All my best,
Ms. Elizabeth
