BCP Welcomes New Board Members
Victor Abiamiri
joined the BCP Board in 2015. He is a portfolio analyst at Brown Advisory and works with the portfolio management team to help manage the balanced accounts of their private clients. Prior to joining Brown Advisory, Victor played five seasons as Defensive End for the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team. He is a former summer intern of Brown Advisory and held additional internships at Park Lane in Los Angeles and Samuel James Limited in Baltimore.

Robert Benjamin
joined the BCP Board in 2015. He serves as Senior Editor for the T. Rowe Price Group Robert is a nationally renowned journalist who has led multi-year investigative projects that won top national and international awards. During his 25-year career at the The Baltimore Sun, Robert served as Deputy Editorial Page Editor, Maryland Editor, Beijing Bureau Chief and Investigative Reporter. Robert was connected with BCP through Business Volunteer Maryland's Board Leadership Program, which has matched over 600 professionals with nonprofit boards since 2003.

Christopher Forrest
joined the BCP Board in 2015. He serves as Supervisor at Element Fleet Corporation. Christopher also serves as President of the York Road Partnership, a membership network of 20+ neighborhoods and affiliates promoting the vitality of Baltimore City's York Road community as a desirable urban environment in which to live, shop, work and worship. Christopher has on son who attend Govans Elementary, the newest BCP neighborhood school.

Mohannad "Mo" Jishi
joined the BCP Board in 2015. He
is Group Vice President of Finance for the Wealth and Institutional Services Division of M&T Bank and Wilmington Trust. He is an active member of the Bank's leadership team, currently chairing the Wealth and Institutional Services Division's Incentive Committee while also participating as a member of several corporate steering committees.
In 2013 Mo was matched with Hampstead Hill Academy Principal Matt Hornbeck
through Business Volunteers' PENCIL Affiliate Program and helped Principal Hornbeck develop a school financial tool to help align investments with HHA's goal of graduating distinguished eighth graders.

BCP Bids Fond Farewell to Outgoing Board Members
Larry Matlack and Bernarda Kwaw
Larry Matlack joined the BCP Board in 2006. For the past nine years he has traveled from Washington, D.C. to attend board meetings, special events and other activities. Larry is a consummate board member who has always been willing to help in any way he can. Prior to joining BCP, Larry
served as the Deputy Associate Director for the Education and Human Resources Division of OMB for 30 years. He was responsible for supervising a staff of 40 who worked on a variety of program areas including all the federal programs financed by the Departments of Education and Labor, the non-health programs in HHS, and 20 other independent agencies. Prior to joining OMB, Mr. Matlack taught English for three years and tutored math. He has an M.S. in Education and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in English from Cornell University.

Bernarda Kwaw
joined the BCP Board in 2015. This past summer she tendered her board resignation in order to accept the Assistant Principalship at Govans Elementary. Prior to joining the Govans staff, Bernarda served as Assistant Principal at Collington Square School. Her four children attend Hampstead Hill Academy. We are sorry to see Bernarda leave the board, but delighted that she is bringing her administrative expertise to Govans.

HHA Alum Kathy Le Awarded Hopkins Scholarship
Kathy Le, an alumnus of Hampstead Hill Academy, was recently awarded a substantial scholarship to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall of 2016. You might recall reading about Kathy in BCP's Spring 2012 newsletter, when she was accepted into the Ingenuity Project at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
BCP would like to congratulate Kathy on her continuing success. Below is an email from Kathy to Dr. Melissa Hayden, her former teacher at Hampstead Hill Academy, about the award.
Hi, Dr. Hayden!
How are you? Hope everything is going well! I just got word back from
Hopkins today and I got in!!! I also won't be broke because I received
lots of scholarship money. As of now, I'll only have to pay 5000 out of
the 68000 total cost! Even though it was a long time ago, thank you for
being an awesome teacher and helping me get to where I am today.

Open Society Foundations Global Board Visits City Springs
A group from the Open Society Foundations Global Board visited City Springs Elementary/Middle School on October 8, 2015.
The school was included on the tour because, in addition to being a BCP conversion charter school, City Springs is a Community School and the Open Society Foundations support Community Schools.
Child First Authority serves as City Springs' lead Community School Agency and Child First Community School Coordinator Abby Baldwin oversees the implementation of the Community School strategy at the City Springs. The strategy is supported by a generous grant from the Family League of Baltimore.
Joining Karen Webber from the Open Society Institute-Baltimore office for the tour was Director Diana Morris, who organized the site visit for Open Society Foundation's regional Global Directors, who were in Baltimore for a senior management subcommittee meeting.

The book borrowing train is in action, lending books to Wolfe Street Academy students through the hard work of volunteers Mollie Fein and Karyn Hassen and social work intern Stephanie Kraemer.
