How to survive the winter without the BFM&B
by Sandy Lawler

As the market comes to the end of the season, I find myself starting to “squirrel-away”  root vegetables and meats to eat until the market reopens April 23, 2017. Needless to say, the veggies only last so long….

Last January, I went out of town and upon arriving home found the “root-cellar” bare. As I grabbed my keys to go to the “store,” I realized that I didn’t want to buy “fresh” produce that had been flown in from California and treated to stay in warehouses for months. So I called one of our farmers and made a run to their farm to pick-up veggies that were wintering-over… I realize that this is not a normal part of most folks lives, but farmers are making it easier and easier for you to continue getting their wonderful products year round. Following are some of our farms that have either CSA’s or Home Delivery programs. There are many farms that have CSA’s during the growing season so ask your farmer if you’re interested.
