Col. Jordan addressing the Post
USACE Baltimore District Briefings

Col. Trey Jordan, P.E., Baltimore District Commander was our keynote speaker on December 17.  Did you know what the district is known for?
  • One of the largest and most visible military missions in the country
  • Support to the military intelligence community
  • Regulatory oversight of natural gas pipeline construction in PA
  • Drinking water for Washington, D.C.

He also spoke about the effort required to complete the Joint Land Attach Cruise Missile Defense Netted Sensor System (JLNS) at Aberdeen Proving Ground.  This high profile national defense project was completed in a very short timeframe under the scrutiny of numerous stakeholders.

Young Member News

On December 2, the YMs and the Fellows got together for a networking and mentoring event at World of Beer.  Approximately 20 members attended including Fellows Greg Johnson, Art Smit, Denise Tegtmeyer, and LTC John Osborne, USA, Ret.  The YMs had a great time interacting with the fellows and sampling the vast kinds of beer available.  The most interesting beer sampled was one that tasted like pumpkin pie.  The YMs are currently planning a tour of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and a wine tasting for the spring.  Contact Nicole Walworth to help plan an event or join the YM committee.

We are searching for young members to attend the Joint Engineer Training Conference in Houston in May and the Post Leader's Workshop in Phoenix in February.  Travel, lodging, and registration will be covered by the Post.  If you are interested, please contact Nicole Walworth.

10K Across the Bay
Members ran across the Bay Bridge for a good cause!

On Nov. 9, a team of 25 runners representing the SAME Baltimore Post participated in the 10K Across the Bay race. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run was a 6.2-mi jaunt starting near the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on the western shore of the bay. The race took runners over the 4.35-mi bridge that towers nearly 200-ft above Chesapeake Bay.
The Baltimore Post team was comprised of individuals from 15 member organizations and included first time race participants as well as advanced runners. The money they raised will benefit the Baltimore Post's Education & Mentoring Fund. Congratulations to those who participated in the race-all for a good cause! Thanks to Denise Tegtmeyer and Nicole Walworth for organizing the event!

Post Participates in Future Cities
Volunteers help with the middle school competition

Six Post members participated in the Future Cities Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition held at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on January 17.  Middle school student teams created a city of the future and were judged on their essays, presentations, physical models, and Sim City computer models.  The theme for this year was "Feeding Future Cities", challenging the students to invent innovative methods for feeding their cities.  The Post sponsored the "Best Project Plan" award, which was won by Bel Air Middle School.  Look for them at a future meeting.  Volunteers included Ola Awosika, Nicole Walworth, Rob Scrafford, Denise Tegtmeyer, Rosanna LaPlante, and Emily Schiffmacher.
